Cascina Adelaide is a relatively new Barolo producer to keep your eye on. Founded in 1999 as the culmination of a lifelong dream of founder Amabile Droco, this beautifully designed, modern, gravity-fed winery sits just beneath the hilltop Castello di Barolo. This tiny production of just 100 cases is a powerful blend of two of their best crus…all at an amazing price!

We are one of the very few in the U.S. to have UNPRECEDENTED access to their top wines, and we purchase every bottle they agree to sell us. For this reserve bottling that was created in homage to Amabile’s partner, Elen, we somehow talked our way into taking over 15% of the entire production! We direct import it ourselves and pass the unreal savings onto you. Truly, this pricing is remarkable, and the wine…even more so! 94 POINTS and decades of life ahead of it…just a surreal treat!

The wine is a classic, old-school style of nebbiolo...a perfect marriage of the top crus of Cannubi and Preda. The nose zings with traditional asphalt and rose petal notes, leading to a palate loaded with tobacco, cardamon, cherries and cranberries, anise seed, balsam, and a long, endless finish. This is a towering spectacle of a wine that is youthful and worthy of any Piemonte cellar. Decant vigorously for early drinking, or simply take your time with the wine and watch it blossom over the course of an evening. Just wicked, awesome stuff.

All of Cascina Adelaide’s grapes are hand harvested and sorted before a 12-hour stay in the winery’s drying room to remove any residual moisture on the grapes. From there, the fruit is destemmed and lightly crushed in preparation for their roughly two-week fermentation and maceration in tank. Following primary, the wine is aged for 24 months in oak barrels, where secondary fermentation occurs. The wine is then bottled for 3 years of further aging before release.

Not the retail of $150. Not $100, even. Just $79.95! For rare, micro-production Barolo like this?? Man. Cascina Adelaide owns plots in some of Barolo’s finest vineyards across the appellation (including Baudana, Fossati, Bussia, Preda, and Cannubi), and this is a selection of the best bits of Preda and Cannubi. Just 100 cases! As we noted above, we simply love it! This winery continues to just BLOW UP in the press, and we are beyond stoked to have gotten in early!

Read the press below, but don’t delay, this is a CRAZY good price. 47% OFF?!?! For a stellar vintage like 2013? Just JUMP all over this...go!

About the Producer

After a highly successful engineering career, Amabile Droco achieved his lifetime's ambition when he purchased an old farmhouse and the accompanying vineyards in the heart of the village of Barolo in 1999. The employment of a top new winemaking team and the construction of an incredible new subterranean winery had a predictably positive effect on the quality of the wines produced. What really sets Cascina Adelaide apart however, is their vineyard holdings and their commitment to demonstrating the diversity of the terroirs within the Barolo DOCG. Journalists have been quick to recognize the fantastic quality of the wines with a number of the wines awarded 95 points from Wine Spectator as well as consistently coming out on top in Decanter tastings. The Fossati Cru is located in the La Morra area, where the soil is rich of red and grey clay. This place is well-known as a great cru for great Barolo wines that can be aged for decades.
