Bruno Giacosa Nebbiolo D'Alba 2019
The unquestioned Maestro of nebbiolo...Bruno Giacosa – Piemonte's most legendary figure. A stunning and fresh Nebbiolo d’Alba – at 40% OFF!!! This is the perfect peek-through-the-keyhole into one of the most spectacular portfolios anywhere in the wine world – from spectacular sites, made by Bruna Giacosa in the exact style and philosophy laid down by her legendary father.
Anyone who has ever had a great bottle of Giacosa (and they are countless) just KNOWS the miracle of what nebbiolo from this producer could be. Bruno sadly passed in 2018 and years later, the wine world has still not recovered. We still get teary-eyed every now and again...but what better way to honor him than by drinking his amazing wines? Even this bottling, HUNDREDS LESS than most Cru Barolo/Barbarescos from Giacosa (some vintages will run you well over $1,000+), is so PURE, so PRECISELY what you want in a “Baby Barolo”...it is just magical. We scored a fantastic price, so whether you are a newbie or a hardcore fan, THIS is what you should be drinking to touch the magic on a regular basis.
We simply love it. 25-31-year-old vines in the villages of Monteu Roero, Santo Stefano Roero, and Vezza d’Alba – all on the ideal southwestern exposure. This wine has the weight and ethereal lightness of pinot noir (so much so that you will be amazed how fast a bottle disappears), but the flavors are radically different, of course, and so exciting and energizing. Plenty of structure, too – certainly suitable for a decade of development. But you’re going to want this right now. Dried and fresh cherries and ripe raspberries, bitter orange, black tea, all manner of subtle clove, cinnamon, and allspice, aromatic wood (not oaky though, think cedar, sandalwood, and cigar box), and a supremely silky, slightly grippy mouthfeel to complement all the flavor. Polished and fine like a true artisan product – just spectacular and wonderful as only Giacosa can be!! Grab a few – you WILL NOT be disappointed – this is one of the greats!!
PAIRING IDEAS: Keeping things decadently simple here...a Piemontese classic – Tajarin Pasta. Fresh, long noodles, tossed and coated with sage-infused butter, with a dusting of Grana Padano. Bonus points if you can find some white Alba truffles to shave over it all.
