Hundred Acre Fortunate Son Cabernet Sauvignon The Warrior St. Helena Napa Valley 2019
Hundred Acre has become a California legend – making big, extracted, and powerfully complex limited production wines from sites throughout the Napa Valley. Their newest project, Fortunate Son is made in the same style – with the same meticulous farming and winemaking techniques that brought Hundred Acre to prominence.
Jayson Woodbridge is a force of nature. A former investment banker, turned vintner, turned global winemaking phenom – love him or hate him… he’ll power ever onward just the same. Layer Cake, Cherry Pie, Hundred Acre – he’s a builder and someone who knows wine on both a micro and macro level. For Fortunate Son, Jayson acquired the long-standing David Fulton vineyard in the very heart of Saint Helena. Planted by David Fulton in 1860 – it was Napa’s longest continuously owned family vineyard, passed down over four generations up until six or seven years ago when Fulton Mather sold the property. Some of Napa’s oldest living vines are found here, on the St. Helena benchland, close to a bend in the Napa river.
For now, at least, the Fortunate Son project relies on some selected parcels of purchased fruit, from top secret sources built over the years by Jayson and his Hundred Acre team. We’re thrilled to have scored some of these early releases – from the absolutely stunning 2019 vintage – that have already made a distinct impression on major critics. 98 POINTS for The Warrior – a single vineyard cabernet sauvignon from St. Helena, followed by a solid 95 POINTS for The Diplomat – a cabernet sauvignon and merlot blend, with a small dash of that old-vine petite sirah that the David Fulton property was revered for (seriously, one of the best!) Both of these wines have “Cult Napa” written all over them (not literally.) We were only able to score a handful of each, and these are sure to join the likes of Hundred Acre and other impossible-to-source wines real, real soon. Get yours while you can, and you can thank us later!
