Pierre Damoy Chambertin Clos de Beze Grand Cru 2010 - First Bottle

Reviews

92-94 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
The 2010 Chambertin-Clos de Beze shows the power of the vintage in its dark red fruit, flowers, smoke and graphite. It is a big, unrestrained wine loaded with intensity and sheer muscle. The aromas and flavors continue to open up with time in the glass. A seriously intense finish layered with deep floral and mentholated notes rounds things out. Damoy's Beze is a blend of parcels predominantly planted in 1920, with some vineyards that date back to 1947 and 1980. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2030. Once again I was thrilled with the wines I tasted with Pierre Damoy, a grower who doesn't get anywhere near the recognition he deserves. Yields were down dramatically, around 30-40%, just as they were throughout the region. Damoy did not begin picking until October 1, quite late for the year.
93 Burghound -
This is notably spicier than the Chapelle with primarily purple fruit aromas and earth nuances sliding gracefully into beautifully detailed, rich and almost painfully intense large-scaled flavors that are overtly muscular and robust, all wrapped in a dusty finish where the tannins are dense but fine. The length is even better and this too should reward long-term aging, in fact it will absolutely need it as this is a powerful Bèze.

This 2010 is a powerhouse of a wine; upon release, it was big, unrestrained, and intense. Today, tannins have softened, and it's layered from top to bottom: deep floral notes, nuanced earth, a touch of spice, dark red fruit, and graphite. This still has power! It will drink nicely now, but don't be afraid to lay this down for years on end.

About the Producer

Domaine Pierre Damoy is a Burgundy wine producer located in Gevrey-Chambertin. The family-owned domaine was founded in the 1920s and has been managed by Pierre Damoy since 1992. It is best known for producing Pinot Noir from its Grand Cru vineyard holdings, in particular the Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru vineyard. The domaine covers around 11 hectares (27 acres) of vineyard land spread throughout Gevrey-Chambertin's grand cru vineyards of Chapelle-Chambertin, Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze and Le Chambertin. Damoy owns a portion of Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze as well as Chapelle-Chambertin. Vines at both sites range from 60-80 years old. Damoy also holds a small area of land in the Chambertin vineyard, and produces Pinot Noir from Marsannay, as well as Bourgogne Blanc and Rouge from vineyards in Fixin and Couchey.
