Montevertine Le Pergole Torte 2013 - First Bottle

Reviews

98 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
Perhaps no Tuscan wine is a better vintage ambassador than the Montevertine 2013 Le Pergole Torte. This gorgeous wine seems to have captured the energy, the freshness, the spirt and the edginess of this classic vintage. It really speaks to my palate thanks to its silky consistency, its steady aromatic momentum and its understated elegance. The wine shows an uncanny level of the proverbial Tuscan nobility. The bouquet offers a delicate embroidery of wild berry and underbrush, with lingering tones of dark fruit and spice that appear on second nose. The mouthfeel is ethereal and polished with tannins that already show a superior level of integration despite the wine's young age. The aging future looks very bright for the 2013 Le Pergole Torte.

A floral and inebriating nose that simply enchants. So aromatic. A wealth of cherry and some citrus with rose petal, too. Full body yet firm and silky with dusty tannins and a wonderful length and beauty.
96 Decanter -
If 1999 was a testament to Sergio Manetti, 2013 is the 'heritage vintage' of his son Martino. Again, harvest commenced on the 7 October in a vintage that's considered very classic for Tuscany. This was the second vintage with Paolo Salvi as winemaker, and it's the best expression of Le Pergole Torte of the decade. It's youthful and almost crimson at its core, showing signature aromas of privet and matcha tea over a savoury cherry and boiled beetroot core. It has a hearty character with large, velvety tannins and melting acidity.
96 Vinous -
The 2013 Le Pergole Torte is another wine that has gone into a shell over the last year. Bold, pungent and powerful, the 2013 possesses striking fruit and overall presence, but it is presently totally shut down. Today, the tannins are forbidding, to say the least. The 2013 Pergole Torte is a wine for the exceedingly patient.

About the Producer

Pergole Torte is Italian royalty and is one of the most elite wines of the world! If you come upon this bottle, at this price, snatch it up. You won't regret it! Montevertine is located in Radda, in the Chianti Classico region, on one of the coolest and highest altitude locations. The wine is considered a 'Vino de Tavola' wine because it is made up of 100% Sangiovese. Don't be fooled, regardless of the table wine category this wine is on whole different level of quality. When the wine was first produced in 1977, winemakers were obligated to include white grapes to the blend. Sergio Manetti dreamt of something else, a more delicate, pure and refined expression of Sangiovese. Adding to the beautiful and complex expression of sangiovese, the label is iconic and produced by Alberto Manfredi who sadly passed away but created enough lables for future wines to come.
