Eden Rift Vineyards Pinot Noir Estate Lansdale Block Cienega Valley 2018 - First Bottle

Reviews

97 James Suckling -
Blackberry, dried strawberry and black cherry. Some stem, too. Full-bodied, bright and polished. Crushed-stone and granite undertones. Rocky and salty. Calera clone. Drinkable now, but needs two or three years to open.

About the Producer

Eden Rift Vineyards, situated in the Cienega Valley of California, unfolds a captivating tale rooted in history and viticulture. Originally planted in 1849, the estate holds the distinction of being one of the oldest continually producing vineyards in California. Throughout its long history, the vineyard has seen various owners and iterations, each contributing to its legacy. In the early 20th century, the property gained prominence under the name "The Sycamores," and its wines garnered acclaim. In 2017, Christian Pillsbury took the reins, revitalizing the estate and rechristening it as Eden Rift Vineyards. Pillsbury's vision involves a commitment to preserving the site's historical significance while embracing modern winemaking techniques. Eden Rift's diverse terroir, characterized by limestone-rich soils and a unique microclimate, sets the stage for cultivating high-quality grapes. The estate focuses on producing Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, showcasing the potential of the Cienega Valley for these Burgundian varietals. Eden Rift Vineyards stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of California winemaking, seamlessly blending tradition with innovation to craft wines that pay homage to the region's rich viticultural heritage.
