Lopez de Heredia Rioja Vina Bosconia Reserva 2006 - First Bottle

Reviews

94 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
The 2006 Vina Bosconia Reserva, always more rustic and powerful than the Vina Tondonia, was cropped from a warm and early harvest and is a blend of Tempranillo with 15% Garnacha and 5% Graciano and Mazuelo. This wine matures in used American oak barrels for five years. It has a very developed nose, and as winemaker Mercedes Lopez de Heredia noted, "It could be confused with a Gran Reserva, as I see it more tertiary and developed." These are amazing wines, clean and complex, with polished tannins and surprisingly good acidity. I have the idea of 2006 as a warmer vintage, but it's not true throughout Rioja; as I've seen with other wines, like the ones from Muga, in this cooler part of Rioja, the vintage was much better. There are some dusty tannins and some flavors that still remind you of fresh fruit. 72,000 bottles were filled in June 2013.

We are stoked to have this SUPERB deal as our first offer of the year. We scored a small parcel about a month ago and it just hit the warehouse --- a MUST if you love the classic, brilliant, ageable wines of Lopez de Heredia!! But do it QUICK, very little to be had….

Magical stuff. Impossibly great at $29.95. That is $179.70 a 6-PACK with ground shipping included!  JS said: “94 - This rich and silky red that seduces you with its silky tannins and subtle bouquet of redcurrants, plums, cedar and autumn leaves. Yet there are some serious tannins in here that build on the long elegant finish. Drink or hold.”

...but we liked it more than that, honestly. Let it open and unfold in your glass. If you love fat, opulent reds, don’t buy this. If you love balance, acidity, complexity, ageability, BUY THIS and drink it with joy. $29.95!!?? For over 141 years, four generations have been making this unique Rioja treasure. Those who know, know!

OH! And for the hardcores, we got a few 1970 Gran Reserva Tondonia, too! 97 POINTS and a true collectible! Happy New Year, indeed!

About the Producer

It all started in the middle of the nineteenth century when French negociants visited the Rioja region to find alternative sources of quality grapes to transform into wine, since the phylloxera epidemic had decimated their vineyards. Don Rafael Lopez de Heredia y Landeta, a knowledgeable and enthusiastic student in the art of wine making, followed closely in their footsteps. For 141 years, four generations of the Lopez de Heredia family have devoted themselves to producing exceptional and unique wines.
