Editor’s Choice: A shy nose hints at crushed autumn leaves, fresh red fruit and soft vanilla. The palate has that same interplay of earthiness and red-berry fruit, supported by a gentle nudge of oaky vanilla. Slender and layered, the body shows a firm grip of very fine tannin. Freshness is evident on the finish. While lovely now, this elegant, poised wine will blossom over the coming years: the fruit is pure and ample; the structure firm and lasting. Drink 2020–2030.

Fritz Wieninger’s winemaking style is informed by his time in California making wine, before returning to Vienna to make his dream a reality. Voted “Winemaker of the Year” in 1990, and as of 2005 a fully biodynamic operation, the winery is literally just outside of Vienna (CLICK HERE to see a cool shot of the vineyards).

BUT...back to being blown away. We were. This wine is polished, graceful, fresh and round, with warm berry flavors and perfumey crushed flowers. It could easily be a $100 Oregon rock star, or maybe a Lignier Chambolle! OUR PRICE? Amazing.

Treat yourself to some of this-- it would be a terrific wine to blind taste your wine geek buds on, and it is immensely enjoyable. Did we mention 94 well-deserved points?!

About the Producer

Fritz Wieninger is the leading wine producer in the city of Vienna. He grew up in the family heurige serving the wines produced by his mother who was one of the first female graduates from the enology program at Klosterneuburg. After completing his studies and spending a year in California, Fritz returned to Vienna intent on producing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
