Yarra Yering Estate Dry Red No. 2 Yarra Valley 2016
Ground shipping included on 3 or more bottles!
Yarra Yering – fun to say and even more fun to drink! This revered producer is rarely found in the states, but if you love old-vine syrah, from one of the coolest spots in Australia – you need some Dry Red No. 2 in your life!
Yarra Yering is the pioneering winery in Australia’s Yarra Valley. This is cool-climate Australian wine at its very best and most age-worthy – comparable to the top vintages of Northern Rhone. A longtime sommelier favorite and a true icon of this cooler stretch of land surrounding the Yarra River in Victoria. Their portfolio is a consistent critical darling, and the demand for these wines is off the charts. At this price, grab a handful of bottles...and thank me later!
Dry Red Wine No 2 is a unique blend consisting mostly of estate-grown shiraz (95%), with small portions of viognier, marsanne, and mataro. Think of it as a sort of Australian riff on an old-school Cote-Rotie. Seven years in bottle has this wine peaking in all the right places – dark chocolate, blackberries, olive tapenade, creme de cassis, black tea, charcoal, blueberry, and candied violets. Savory, fresh, and extremely complex with wonderful new leather and cigar box spice flavors. Every time you revisit the glass, you get something new to discover – a few swirls and watch this wine come to life! The freshness here is what makes this wine so special - it's still unbelievably youthful with vibrant acidity, and our guess is, it will be drinking great for another 10 to 15 years.
The syrah hails from over 50-year-old vines and undergoes a rather unique, whole berry fermentation where some lots are fermented atop frozen viognier skins, others with marsanne skins. The mataro is blended amongst the syrah and co-fermented, along with a bit of the stems for added structure and spice. Just one of those exceptional wines that somms, wine geeks, casual drinkers, and serious collectors can all agree on – Yarra Yering just straight satisfies! We have only about 8 cases, so don’t delay!
