Clos i Terrasses Clos Erasmus Priorat DOCa 2002 - First Bottle

Reviews

93 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
This excellent value is a noteworthy introduction to the style of Clos Erasmus. The 2002 Clos Erasmus is undeniably one of the finest Priorats of the vintage. A blend of 75% Grenache and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, aged in 100% new Radoux barrels, it boasts a dense ruby/purple color along with noble notes of crushed rock-like steeliness, elegance, precision, power, and intensity. There is a layered mouthfeel, remarkable concentration for a 2002, and fine length as well as overall balance. This beauty is best consumed during its first 10-15 years of life given the vintage.
93 Wine Enthusiast -
From Daphne Glorian, among the region's original new wavers, Clos Erasmus is simply one of the best, most typical Priorat wines out there. And while the '02 may not rank as a classic, it's still superb. Aromas of graphite, mineral and licorice dominate, backed by layered cherry, plum and earth notes. From four small vineyards around the town of Gratallops. About 450 cases made. Imported by European Cellars.
93 Jeb Dunnuck -
Very dark and slightly compact with rich blackberry, vanilla, charred earth and meat aromas. Medium to full bodied and beautifully textured with everything in perfect balance leading into a long finish. This has beautiful density all the way from the initial attack to the finish and is an outstanding bottle that has some upside.
90+ Vinous -
Medium ruby-red. Claret-like aromas of currant, licorice, tar and nutty oak. Densely packed, tight and juicy, with slightly green but sappy fruit flavors framed by bright acids. Distinctly a wine from a less ripe year but possesses very good concentration, subtl sweetness of fruit and very firm tannin structure. This may well be better for a couple of years of additional time in bottle.

About the Producer

Let's raise a glass to the daring and fearless spirit of Daphne Glorian! 25 years ago, she took a leap of faith and invested her life savings into a vineyard outside the village of Gratallops, driven by a group of passionate friends who were looking to make a new style of wine. And what a wine it turned out to be! The modern Priorat was born with five different labels, each of which went on to become world-renowned: Clos Mogador, Clos Dofi, Clos Martinet, Clos de l’Obac and Clos Erasmus. Today, Daphne's property is called Clos i Terrasses and is made up of three vineyards - Escalas, Aubagues and Socarrats. Each vineyard has its unique character, shaped by the terraces, exposure and soils. Despite the challenges, Daphne's relentless effort and drive has helped Clos i Terrasses continue to innovate and evolve. So here's to a bold vision, a spirit of adventure and the love of wine! Let's celebrate the 25 years of Clos i Terrasses and look forward to what the next 25 years will bring! Cheers!
