Bodega Alandes Paradoux White 6th Edition NV - First Bottle

Reviews

95 Tim Atkin -
Karim Mussi is better known as a red winemaker, but this non-vintage white is his finest creation in my view. Fermented and aged on lees in second-use barrels, it's a finely judged medley of Semillon and 37% Sauvignon Blanc, with plenty of texture, toasty beeswax, and grapefruit flavours and fine oak integration. 2023-28
94 Descorchados -
This is a blend of two-thirds semillon from La Consulta and one-third sauvignon blanc from Los Chacayes, all in a solera system where several vintages are combined and bottled from year to year. It has a juicy density and an oily body adorned with notes of honey and spices, especially pepper, which expand across the palate. This is a big white with lots of depth to keep in the cellar for years.
94 Decanter -
Inspired by Bordeaux blends, Karim Mussi combines Semillon from La Consulta with Sauvignon Blanc from Los Chacayes, which he then ferments in barrels and ages on lees for over a year, to create a fragrant, floral white with a nose of citrus and white fruit along with notes of honey and spice. In the mouth it flows well, with good balance, taut acidity and a full flavour. A white with excellent cellar potential.

Karim Mussi is quickly building a reputation as one of the most sought after winemakers in the Southern Hemisphere. This is his sixth crack at the Bodega Alandes white blend...and these keep getting better! 95 POINTS – this is some seriously complex stuff!

White wines of this depth and purity are rare enough in the wine world – we’d put this in a class that would include Château Carbonnieux, Château Smith Haut Lafitte, Peter Michael, Spottswoode, etc. Epic houses all, producing sophisticated, polished, intense, elegant, and finely crafted wines that drink way WAY above their price point. And THIS! Under $25 for a white of this quality and ageability is something special...just wait until you try this!

Paradoux Blanco is a multi-vintage blend crafted with a solera-style reserve of vintages going back several years. The blend for this release is roughly two-thirds semillon and one-third sauvignon blanc – all fermented and aged in barrel. It soars with stylish, creamy, concentrated flavors of lime zest, smoked hay, delicate honeysuckle, and wooly lanolin, with amazing tension between the acidity and the creaminess. The oak is present yet so well-handled, it just adds another dimension that develops over the long, contemplative finish.

This is something special that should drink well over the next decade! Of course, we’re big fans already, and this wine is drinking spectacularly right now! See why the critics are raving about this wine and we’re certain you’ll become a fan yourself!
