Croix De Beausejour Saint Emilion Grand Cru 2020
Croix De Beauséjour is one of those wines that always impresses. Only made in the finest vintages, this second wine of Château Beauséjour is from a dedicated part of the estate in Saint-Emilion. In the glorious 2020 vintage – this is one to covet...perhaps one of the finest values to be had in all of Bordeaux! At $39.95 for a Saint-Emilion Grand Cru from such a revered and longstanding chateau, you won’t want to miss this!
Just to get the bad news out of the way, there are only 16 cases of this Right Bank beauty. Ok, consider yourself warned! Château Beauséjour’s Grand Vin has the distinction of Robert Parker, Jr. declaring it as one of his top “desert island wines”, and this estate has only gotten better over the past few decades. Originally founded in 1861, the estate didn’t really make it big until Robert Parker bestowed a perfect 100-point score upon the legendary 1990 Grand Vin. In the years that followed, this became an unchecked wildfire of collectors hot-to-trot to add this Saint-Emilion standout to their personal collection. Prices soared and today you can collect the Grand Vin at nearly four times the price we have for you today! This super second is far from a leftover wine, nor is it made in a profoundly different style than the estate’s flagship. Rather, think of this as a small subsection of the larger estate – like a block designate wine – one that is distinct enough to stand alone, especially in certain vintages, and worthy of a separate bottling.
Set next to Saint-Emilion’s legendary estates of Château Beau-Sejour Becot, Château Canon, Clos St. Martin, Château Angelus, and Clos Fourtet – this is prime Right Bank real estate where top-notch wines are produced – especially in remarkable vintages like 2020. In 2020, this wine shares many of the traits of the Grand Vin – a purity of dark berry fruit, a dense and smoky frame, weight, and profound creaminess throughout...just a knockout! The Grand Vin scored a perfect 100 points from Jeb Dunnuck, and while this one hasn’t received any scores just yet – it’s not far off! This is supple and hearty Right Bank Bordeaux at its very best – with a decade of prime drinking yet to come. At our price – this is simply not to be missed!
