Domaine Le Prieure des Papes Chateauneuf-du-Pape Blanc Vieilles Vignes 2020 - First Bottle

Reviews

91 Jeb Dunnuck -
The 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape Vieilles Vignes Blanc is similar, with a juicy, vibrant style in its honeyed grapefruit, citrus, and minty, green herb-like aromas and flavors. It’s medium-bodied and impeccably balanced.

Chateauneuf-du-Pape Blanc! Domaine le Prieuré des Papes first vintage of a CdP Blanc and we’re stoked! 91 POINTS! Better still – the price drops to only $34.95 when you get three, and FREE GROUND SHIPPING too!

This is the first-ever release of Domaine le Prieuré des Papes CdP Blanc – and it is stunning! Led by one of the top wine professionals in the world, Antoine Petrus, this “new” estate is one to watch...since taking over for Domaine La Millière in the 2019 vintage, they now have access to some of CdP’s most spectacular old vine plots!

While we’ll sadly miss the spectacular, old-vine-loving Arnaud family (a jewel of a producer that you dedicated First Bottlers have been gobbling up for years) – we have to admit...we’re pretty excited for what’s next. The same historic estate, the facilities, and most importantly, those extra special, seriously ancient vines (up to 130 years old!) are now Domaine le Prieure des Papes. Organic. Bio-dynamic. Off-the-hook delicious.

This CdP Blanc is bright and incredibly mineral-driven, with aromas of peach and honeydew melon, some nutty almond characteristics, and wet slate. In the mouth, the wine is medium weight and hyper-bright, with a zippy, pervasive acidity carrying the weight of the wine easily. Green apples, lemongrass, green almond – all enveloped in a robe of crunchy, flinty minerality. Decant this young to release all that inherent complexity – but feel free to lay this down for several years too!

PAIRING IDEAS: I’m taking a bottle of this out to the coast – oysters, fried calamari and clams, fish and chips – these are all going to make for an incredible pairing! Maybe I should bring a second bottle...fried seafood does make you thirsty!

About the Producer

Previously known as Domaine La Milliere: "Previously known as Domaine La Millière, Domaine le Prieure des Papes is now under the helm of France’s superstar sommelier, Antoine Petrus, who in addition to managing this estate, is in charge of Domaine de Coyeux in Beaumes de Venise and is a partner in the restaurant La Mère Germaine, located in the heart of Châteauneuf du Pape. The 2019s are rock solid, but I have no doubt the best is yet to come from this estate."
