Tenuta Carretta Roero Arneis Canorei Riserva 2018 - First Bottle

Reviews

92 James Suckling -
Aromas and flavors of baked apples, flowers and a hint of lemon peel. Medium-bodied with a pleasant, silky feel and bead of aniseed-like spice brightening up the palate and coloring the long finish. An interesting take on Arneis. Delicious. Enjoy now.
91 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
The Tenuta Carretta 2018 Roero Arneis Riserva Canorei opens to a golden color and aromas of dried peach, tea leaf, honey and beeswax. The wine offers medium-rich density and a slightly viscous texture. Tasted four years after the harvest, the wine's freshness is still impactful and bright.

Recently, Tenuta Carretta celebrated 550 years, yes, YEARS of its long, storied history. We generally visit this historic property every year, and talk about soccer, food, hilarious American movies, truffles, and taste a bunch of the upcoming releases. This one they sent as a sample that we tasted together over Zoom – and it was simply divine!

This is a monopole cru for Carretta and is unlike any other Arneis on the planet. Buttered toast and vanilla with fruit salad flavors of melon, apple, and tangerine, plus some white flowers, with peaches and cream and butter poached pear. This is ripe and oily in texture, with mouth-coating viscosity and a concentrated finish with superb length. 12 months on the lees in barrel, and very low sulfur because of all the lees contact. Just a gem of a wine!

About the Producer

The story begins in 1467, the then owner, Andrea Damiano, conceded to the Porrini brothers permission to work his lands fo Cassina Careta for nine years. In 1811, after 350 years, the property passed from the Marquis Damiano to the Count of Roero, who cultivated in for 120 years. In 1932, he gave the estate to the Veglia family of Turin. In 1985, the property finally passed to the Miroglio family from Alba. The property is still owned by the Miroglio family, Edoardo and his wife Ivana. Tenuta Carretta is in Piobesi d'Alba, Roero on the left bank of the Tanaro river and is made up of 70 hectares of vineyards.
