Chateau de la Negly La Clape L'Ancely 2018

Jeb Dunnuck has been a huge fan of this wine for years, and he perfectly summed it up when he tasted the 2015 vintage a few years back: “If you want to see how good Mourvedre can be from the Languedoc, beg, borrow, or steal to get a bottle of this.” At our price, you don’t need to steal, just act quickly! This a Mourvèdre to put Bandol on notice!
Just in case you DON’T know the Chateau de la Negly wines - brace yourself! Everything they do is stunning! 94, 95-97+...these are huge scores from top critics – yet, because the vineyards aren’t from a well-known spot like the Rhone, the wines are unbelievably well-valued. Super-limited, we only have a few cases of each! Don’t delay!
The Chateau was built in the 18th century and was originally named d'Anceley; in 1807 the name changed to Negly. Many families have owned this historic estate over the centuries but with the arrival of Jean Paux-Rosset in 1992, the wines began their elevation to premier level status. Superstar winemaker Claude Gros guides the ship on these beauties and they are frankly stunning wines. Jeb Dunnuck knows what a talent he is, describing him as "one of the most talented, yet least known top consultants in the wine world today."

Jeb Dunnuck
The 2018 L’Ancely is a more Mourvèdre-dominated cuvée that’s fermented in demi-muids and will spend 20 months in barrel. Loads of blueberries, new leather, wild strawberry, white pepper, and herbes de Provence notes emerge from the glass, and it shows a more medium to full-bodied, seamless style on the palate, with the tight, slightly closed style of young Mourvèdre front and center. With rocking balance, sweet, polished tannins, a great mid-palate, and a finish that builds with time in the glass, this is another remarkable wine that will evolve for 10-12+ years or more.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
More raspberry and cherry-fruited than most of the offerings here, the charming 2018 La Clape L'Ancely is mainly Mourvèdre, normally with around one-fifth Grenache or less. Like the 2017 did, the 2018 is aging in 600-liter demi-muids. Plush and creamy textured, this full-bodied wine is attractive already, finishing with notes of peppery spice and lingering, silky tannins. It's sure to be another in a long string of hits for this benchmark estate.
