Warwick Estate Reserve Proprietary Red Stellenbosch 2018
Vinous’ Neal Martin has famously proclaimed that "South Africa is frankly unbeatable in terms of quality-to-price ratio." And while we can think of a few other contenders for that crown, we don’t disagree with his sentiment. With a fantastic 97 POINTS from the prestigious Decanter World Wine Awards, this wine proves that the best of South Africa consistently provides immense quality far beyond what one expects. At nearly 40% OFF, this is a perfect opportunity to explore one of South Africa’s best!
Long-heralded as a top producer in Stellenbosch, Warwick’s flagship Cabernet-based Proprietary Red is an incredible wine–that just happens to be an incredible value. Oh man, just wait until you see this price…clocking in at 55% cabernet franc, 42% cabernet sauvignon, and 3% merlot, this wine packs in an absolute wallop of deep, intense flavors. Crushed blackberries, herb-crusted roast lamb, black tea, and spiced plum tarts offer up heady and intoxicating sensations which draw you in for a deep dive into the full-bodied and complex mouthfeel. The finish goes on and on and on.
To craft this wine, each component is harvested, de-stemmed, and hand-sorted to vinify separately. Fermentation and maceration can last for up to 40 days, with 3 to 4 pump overs each day, before racking to barrels for 24 months of aging (55% new French oak). All in the name of depth and concentration, this wine is something to savor! With wonderful polish and complexity, this can stand toe to toe with the great wines of Bordeaux. At the price we got going today, expect it to fly quickly!
** Called "Trilogy" in South Africa, and elsewhere, the name of the wine here in the U.S. is changed to "Reserve"...to avoid infringement with a certain Napa wine. **
