Chateau Negly Villamanda Languedoc Rouge 2016 - First Bottle

Reviews

94 Jeb Dunnuck -
The flagship cuvée, the 2017 Languedoc is a more modern style cuvée based on Syrah, Grenache, and Carignan. Seeing an extended maceration and two years in French oak (plenty new, I’m sure), its dense purple color is followed by a rich, powerful, full-bodied Languedoc offering impressive cassis and blackberry fruits interwoven with high class leather, spice, vanilla bean, and tobacco. It’s beautifully complex, has some background oak, silky tannins, and is a gorgeous wine any way you look at it. It’s going to benefit from a year or two in bottle and will evolve for over a decade.
94 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
Made by the team at Negly, the impressive 2016 Languedoc Villamanda is a blend of Syrah and Grenache that spent two years in oak. Scents of blueberries and cherries converge on the nose, joined by notes of vanilla and baking spices, plus hints of licorice and cracked pepper. It's a big, full-bodied wine but one whose tannins are impeccably ripe and unobtrusive. They give breadth and texture to the wine without constraining it, resulting in a plush, velvety flow across the palate and into the long, supple finish. Sadly, there are only 100 cases of this super wine for the world.

One of the hottest reds in the world, really! CRAZY-huge bang for the buck - these wines MUST be experienced! $155 release price and only 100 cases were produced for the world! Don't hesitate, we only got 5 cases!

By now, we assume you savvy folks are already dropping these in your baskets, but just in case you DON’T know the Chateau la Negly wines — brace yourself! Everything they do is stunning, but these, the top cuvees, from old vines and prized vineyards, are something next-level.

The Chateau was built in the 18th century and was originally named d'Anceley; in 1807 the name changed to Negly. Many families have owned this historic estate over the centuries but it wasn't until the arrival of Jean Paux-Rosset, who purchased Negly in 1992, that the wines produced from these old traditional vineyards began their elevation to premier level status. Superstar winemaker Claude Gros guides the ship on these beauties and they are frankly stunning wines. Jeb Dunnuck knows what a talent he is describing him as, "one of the most talented, yet least known top consultants in the wine world today."

We just received our tiny allocation and all we can say is – GO! Plenty of press to read up on here, just know you are getting wildly deep dark intense and concentrated wines with fantastic levels of complexity and polish. You CANNOT go wrong here – the pricing is just superb!

About the Producer

The Chateau de la Negly is located in the Languedoc, overlooking the Mediterranean, in the exceptional terroir of La Clape. They original Negly vineyard spanned 123 acres on clay limestone soils which gives Negly its signature palate impact and broad shoulders. In 2006 they acquired the neighboring 62 acres on alluvial sand and sandstone soils which was replanted and now is farmed sustainably and by hand. Consultant Claude Gros has further refined the work in the cellar it's not a mystery why La Negly is the top of the class in Southern France.
