Muller-Catoir Riesling (Dry) Haardt Trocken 2019
Organic. Dry (2.7g residual sugar). Insanely minerally and fresh. A complete knockout for our price!!
Müller-Catoir was a pioneer of reductive winemaking in Germany. The estate implements a gentle crush, a long skin contact, slow gentle pressing, and then ferments at warmer than customary fermentation temperatures in stainless steel. The wine is racked only once and very late. The vineyards in Haardt are composed of primary rock (urgestein) and sandstone, with an increasing proportion of gravel lower on the slopes.
We can’t fault a word of JS’s writeup - fruit, cool mint, herbs, piercing mineral, beautiful, literally mouth-watering texture…man, so good!! What else can we say?! $24.95, 95 points…stock up while we have it!
PAIRING IDEAS: Those fantastic Vietnamese “fresh rolls” you can get at many Vietnamese or Thai restaurants, with shrimp and/or tofu and a bit of mint and noodles…PERFECT. And a sunny day!
MUSIC SUGGESTIONS: Throwback! The Human League's “Fascination” brings back some fun high school memories in a big way (yes, we are old).
