Muller-Catoir Riesling (Dry) Haardt Trocken 2019 - First Bottle

Reviews

95 James Suckling -
Still very youthful and a little closed, this is so deep and cool, almost dark, in spite of the fresh-pineapple and fresh-herb notes. Stunning concentration and finesse for a village wine. Very long finish that is simultaneously silky and mineral. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

Organic. Dry (2.7g residual sugar). Insanely minerally and fresh. A complete knockout for our price!!

Müller-Catoir was a pioneer of reductive winemaking in Germany. The estate implements a gentle crush, a long skin contact, slow gentle pressing, and then ferments at warmer than customary fermentation temperatures in stainless steel. The wine is racked only once and very late. The vineyards in Haardt are composed of primary rock (urgestein) and sandstone, with an increasing proportion of gravel lower on the slopes.

We can’t fault a word of JS’s writeup - fruit, cool mint, herbs, piercing mineral, beautiful, literally mouth-watering texture…man, so good!! What else can we say?! $24.95, 95 points…stock up while we have it!

PAIRING IDEAS: Those fantastic Vietnamese “fresh rolls” you can get at many Vietnamese or Thai restaurants, with shrimp and/or tofu and a bit of mint and noodles…PERFECT. And a sunny day!

MUSIC SUGGESTIONS: Throwback! The Human League's “Fascination” brings back some fun high school memories in a big way (yes, we are old).

About the Producer

The Muller-Catoir winery has been a family-owned business since 1744. Now in the ninth generation, this team balances modern with traditional winemaking practices. That's how the wines, made 100% from the harvest of our own vineyards, are created in the Müller-Catoir style: highly refined, with notes of minerality, elegant, and uncompromisingly unique. The name Muller-Catoir combines the typical Palatinate straightforwardness with a spirit of pioneering and non-conformity. Vegan Wine
