Reviews

100 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
Kapcsandy Cabernet Sauvignon Grand Vin State Lane Vineyard Yountville 2018 - “The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Grand Vin State Lane Vineyard is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon again this year. "Now that the vineyard has matured, the Cabernet vines give us full, complete wines," Kapcsandy's consulting winemaker, Tony Arcudi, said. The wine was aged in French oak, 90% new. Deep garnet-purple in color, the nose needs a little coaxing to release scents of fresh black and red currant, blackberries and kirsch with touches of unsmoked cigars, cedar chest and violets, plus a waft of chocolate mint. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is built like a brick house with super firm, super ripe tannins and amazing freshness supporting the packed-in layers of black and red fruits, finishing long and earthy/savory. Yep, nailed it. 400 cases were made.”

Kapcsandy Cabernet Sauvignon Grand Vin State Lane Vineyard Yountville 2018 - "Only the second time it's been 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Grand Vin sports a deep purple color as well as a Latour-like bouquet of crème de cassis, scorched earth, violets, graphite, camphor, and lead pencil. Rich, powerful and concentrated, with incredible elegance and purity as well as building structure, this magical effort needs 7-8 years of bottle age and will live for 50 years or more."

The 2018 Roberta's Reserve is another magnificent wine from the Kapcsándy family. Beautifully ripe and deep, the Roberta's balances richness with elegance in a stunning style. Black cherry, chocolate, new leather, licorice, spice and menthol, build as this creamy, expansive Merlot opens over time. The 2018 is all class. In a word: superb.

Kapcsandy Roberta’s Reserve State Lane Vineyard 2018 - “The Merlot-dominated 2018 Roberta's Reserve (there is 2% Cabernet Franc) is also deeply hued and has a great nose of smoked black and blue fruits, gravelly earth, chocolate, and tobacco. As with all the wines here, it has incredible purity of fruit, the tannins are just about perfect, and it’s flawlessly balanced. Hide bottles for 4-5 years and enjoy over the following 15-20 years.”
96+ Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
Kapcsandy Roberta’s Reserve State Lane Vineyard 2018 - "A blend of 98% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc, the 2018 Roberta's Reserve State Lane Vineyard was aged in French oak, 75% new. Deep garnet-purple in color, it comes bounding out of the glass with energetic notes of crushed red and black plums, boysenberries and Morello cherries plus hints of blueberry pie, camphor, dark chocolate, star anise and bay leaves. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has a solid foundation of ripe, rounded tannins and bold freshness supporting the generous, crunchy black and red fruit, finishing long and lifted. 175 cases were made."

WA100, JD100, VN98, JD97, WA96+

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!

We have literally 4 two-packs to sell of the exeptional 2018s - a special buy from the winery. These wines are unreal. Each 2-pack contains 1 bottle of Kapcsandy Cabernet Sauvignon Grand Vin State Lane Vineyard Yountville 2018 (WA100, JD100), and 1 bottle of Kapcsandy Roberta’s Reserve State Lane Vineyard 2018 (VN98, JD97, WA96+).

We are thrilled, to say the least - Kapcsandy makes some of the most coveted Cab in the Valley and this should be at the very top of your “big gun Napa” purchases this year. GLORIOUS, intense, 1st Growth Bordeaux-like wines from the famed State Lane vineyard in Yountville (this was Beringer’s top vineyard for decades).

Tiny allocations make it around the world each year... First come, first served!

About the Producer

Lou Kapcsandy (pronounced "Cup-chon-dy") came to the US from his native Hungary in 1956, pursuing a successful career in chemical engineering and manufacturing. Through colleagues in the wine industry, the wine bug grew. In 1998, Lou and his wife, Bobbie, visited Leoville-Las-Cases and they were smitten by the idea of opening up their own winery back in the states. The Kapcsandys purchased the historic Beringer Estate State Lane vineyard (which was home to that company's Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon program). They have since then replanted the vineyards primarily to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot and a new winery was built in 2005. They have a family mentality of producing consistent "First Growth" quality wines that rival the best wines of the world.
