D`Angelo Aglianico Canneto Basilicata 2015 - First Bottle

Reviews

91 Wine Spectator -
A pure note of black cherry leaps from the glass of this harmonious, structured red, with dense tannins well-meshed with the range of dark fruit, star anise, lavender and smoky mineral flavors. Offers a chewy, spiced finish. Aglianico. Drink now through 2028. 2,000 cases made, 500 cases imported.
17.5/20 Jancis Robinson -
100% Aglianico aged for 18 months in barriques and an additional six months in bottle. Concentrated mid ruby with orange rim. Contained richness of cherry and damson fruit on the nose with hints of oatmeal. Lots of dark fruit on the palate but not sweet or heavy and bags of polished tannins. Perfect balance and great complexity on the finish.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!
A beautiful, super-friendly red with a pretty surprising amount of complexity and structure (considering it’s under $20!) from this century-old producer with vineyards on the slope of the extinct volcano, Monte Vulture. Normally harder to find at retail, we scored a nice parcel -- BUT, it will sell out fairly quickly...start cooking the pasta, we’ll start packing your box! While it lasts!

About the Producer

The D'Angelo winery, whose name has been identified with the Aglianico wine for approximately a century, represents for Basilicata the history of this wine. Rocco and Erminia D'Angelo keep focusing their efforts on the constant improvement of the quality of their products, which start first of all in the constant improvement of the quality of their approx. 35 ha of winery-owned vineyards.
