About the Producer

Maison Leroy was founded in 1868 by Francois Leroy, who was also the winemaker and owner of vines at Auxey-Duresses. He also owned vines in Meursault, Pommard, Chambertin, Musigny, Clos Vougeot and Richebourg. Not only did the family make wine but also dabbled in the liquors and distilled alcohol business. They made eau-de-vie near Cognac and established a distillery at Segonzac in Champagne. Henri, the grandson of Francois, was the one that purchased some parcels of Domaine Romanee-Conti making him the half owner of the domaine. Henri put his heart and soul at DRC, with his daughter Lalou becoming the President Directeur General at Domaine Leroy while also helping her father at DRC. Lalou is a force to be reckoned with. Lalou is the conductor behind Maison Leroy, Domaine Leroy and Domaine d'Auvenay. Lalou has since expanded the vineyards at Domaine Leroy 54 acres (some speculate on the actual size), mostly Premier Cru and Grand Cru. She has also since switched to Biodynamic farming and has been a big proponent of this holistic approach. Her profound belief is that "everything is alive: the soil, the grounds, plants,.." "as alive as animals and humans..." The result is incredibly low yields of extremely concentrated yet refined wines with a rare purity of fruit which are some of the most highly prized wines in Burgundy today.
