Signorello Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Napa Valley 2018 - First Bottle

Reviews

94 Vinous -
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon is laced with bright red-toned fruit, rose petal, cinnamon and a kiss of new French oak. Beautifully aromatic and nuanced, the 2018 captures all the best this vintage has to offer. Bright acids and mid-weight structure are the signatures in this very pretty, nuanced Cabernet Sauvignon. The 12% Franc really drives the aromatic profile. This is such a vivid wine.
94 James Suckling -
A pretty, plush red with lots of blackcurrant, blackberry, dark-chocolate and walnut character. It’s full-bodied and layered with lots of ripe tannins and a flavorful finish. Still needs time to come together. Juicy and layered, but not overdone. 81% cabernet sauvignon, 12% cabernet franc, 6.5% merlot and 0.5% malbec. Best after 2023.
91+ Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is a blend of 81.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Cabernet Franc, 6% Merlot and 0.5% Malbec. Deep garnet-purple in color, it leaps from the glass with vibrant scents of crushed black cherries, fresh blackcurrants and ripe plums plus suggestions of pencil shavings, cardamom, bay leaves and tilled soil. The medium to full-bodied palate is refreshing and chock-full of crunchy black fruits, supported by ripe, grainy tannins, finishing long and earthy.
91 Jeb Dunnuck -
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate, which includes 12% Cabernet Franc, 6% Merlot, and a tiny splash of Malbec, has a fresh, incredibly floral character that offers ample blue fruits, violets, spring flowers, graphite, and scorched earth-like nuances. These carry to a medium-bodied Cabernet that has an elegant, straightforward, incredibly drinkable style geared for enjoying over the coming 10-12 years. It's really showing its Cabernet Franc component today.

“Beautifully aromatic and nuanced, the 2018 captures all the best this vintage has to offer… This is such a vivid wine.” – Antonio Galloni, 94 points

Signorello’s “White Label” estate cabernet sauvignon is a tremendous effort that proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that this great Napa Valley estate is back! With Double 94 POINTS from top critics – this stunning cabernet from the eastern edges of Napa Valley is a delight that reveals the nuance of varietal blending, and the pedigree of this estate’s return from the devastation of the 2017 fires.

This estate-grown wine is the baby brother of their top bottling, the iconic Padrone cabernet sauvignon. The use of younger vines, from slightly less rocky and severe parcels on the estate gives this wine an inherent softness that revels in a younger drinking window, yet nevertheless showcases many of the characteristics for which the flagship cabernet sauvignon is prized. As other reviewers have mentioned – the 12% cabernet franc in the final blend really comes across in this wine, giving a tremendous uplift of aromatics and high-toned elegance.

The wine is dark and powerfully concentrated, with plenty of black fruits – ranging from blackberries to black plums, and black cherries. That floral lift of lilacs and violets certainly adds another level of depth and complexity, as does the almost Bordeaux-like notes of graphite and crumbled gravel on the finish. This is an exceptionally complex and varied young cabernet sauvignon – where a pretty elegance is harmoniously interwoven into a full-bodied and powerful structure. After nearly six years since harvest, this is simply stunning right now, with plenty of life to evolve over the next ten years.

PAIRING IDEAS: This went beautifully with a New Zealand rack of lamb, seared and then roasted with a bit of salt, pepper, garlic and rosemary. To finish, I had a red wine sauce with shallots, a bit of dijon, some reduced beef stock, and a sharp, bright kiss of pomegranate molasses. Perfection.

About the Producer

Signorello Estate is a renowned winery located in the Napa Valley region of California. Established by Ray Signorello Jr. in 1985, the winery quickly gained acclaim for its commitment to producing high-quality, Bordeaux-style wines. The estate's vineyards are situated on the Silverado Trail, a prime location in Napa known for its exceptional grape-growing conditions. Unfortunately, in October 2017, the winery fell victim to the devastating wildfires that swept through Northern California. The fires destroyed the winery's facilities and much of its wine inventory. Despite this setback, the Signorello family has shown resilience and determination to rebuild and continue their winemaking legacy. The history of Signorello Winery reflects both the challenges faced by Napa Valley and the strength of its winemaking community.
