Rocca Family Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Grigsby Vineyard Yountville Napa Valley 2019 - First Bottle

Reviews

92 Jeb Dunnuck -
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Grigsby Vineyard has a forward, full-bodied, wonderfully textured profile as well as ample blue fruits, notes of candied violets, leather, and spice, soft tannins, and a clean, length finish. It’s beautifully done and is well worth checking out. It should evolve for 10-12 years.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!

We almost never get access to Rocca wines – they’re just so rare! And when we tasted this beauty, we couldn’t believe our luck. Single-vineyard Napa cab from the ever-promising 2019 vintage, developed into a wine that’s exceptionally full, rich, delicate, and soft, with loads of gorgeous red and black fruits. If that’s not enough to win you over, if you order 3+ bottles, the price drops to $44.95 per bottle! Retail is over $50 MORE than that, people! Chances like this don’t just come around every day, even here...

Most of Rocca’s production goes straight to their hardcore fanbase, through direct allocations and their wine club. Miracle of all miracles, we were given access to a woefully small allocation that WILL move quickly, but we were just happy to get our hands on anything. The Grigsby vineyard is one of two of Rocca’s estate vineyards here in Napa, in the family since 1999 and named for one of their founders, Dr. Eric Grigsby. This organic plot is in the southeastern corner of the Yountville AVA, looking across Silverado Trail to the chiseled rock skyline of Stags Leap.

Dr. Grigsby and his wife, Mary Rocca, bought their estate in Yountville in 1999 after falling in love with the 21-acre property. They sealed the purchase with a handshake and promised the previous owners they’d bring it back to its illustrious roots. They set about farming the land with sustainable and organic processes, and the Grigsby Vineyard specifically became well known for producing high-quality grapes that they supplied to other Napa Valley wineries, along with crafting their own desirable vintages. In 2000, they added an 11-acre hilltop property in Coombsville to their holdings, planted with cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc, and expanded their Napa winegrowing empire to new heights.

This gorgeous cab is a mouth-coating, saliva-inducing, lush, and plush cabernet, one that Jeb Dunnuck aptly describes as “beautifully done” and “well worth checking out.” Agreed, Jeb, agreed! The lovely 2019 vintage is on full display here, simply oozing with inky, dark blackberry, raspberry, cherry, and boysenberry fruits, dark chocolate, vanilla bean, pie crust, and myriad baking spices. This seamless and harmonious style absolutely screams “drink me!” – and I’m sure you’ll be just as happy as I was to oblige. For more than $50 off retail when you buy at least three, it only makes financial sense to load up your cart!

PAIRING IDEAS: Skip the meal and head straight for something sweet – a bitey and smooth square of your favorite dark chocolate to wash down this velvety rich cab.
