Michel Rolland Cabernet Sauvignon MR Napa Valley 2019
Michel Rolland has consulted with the likes of Ornellaia, Pontet-Canet, and Screaming Eagle since 1985, and has made wine for even longer with some of the most iconic brands in both Bordeaux and Napa Valley. His own label pulls from some of Napa’s most revered vineyards for the 2019 cabernet sauvignon – including Sleeping Lady, Denali, and Furtado Vineyards – in a collaboration with equally legendary 100-point winemaker, Jean Hoefliger, who chose, harvested, and fermented the grapes while Michel weighed in on blending sessions. Only 700 cases were made – so we feel lucky to have gotten our hands on 3 of them.
Scoring double-97s from Jeb Dunnuck and Decanter, the magnificently rich cabernet is as classic high-caliber Napa cab as you can possibly get. Brilliant fruit notes of blueberries, blackberries, and red and black currants make waves along with intense accents of spicy oak, sweet cassis, a bite of dark chocolate bar, some garden-fresh herbs, plus a warm blend of all-spice, cardamom, cinnamon, and clove for a cab that’s generously seductive and soft and layered, with ample concentration, length, and depth. This is the cabernet that the most devoted of fans dream of and live for to prop up on their cellar shelves and open to impress all their friends. Every bit worth all the clout, hype, and pedigree – we can assure you of that – but not nearly enough to last long! Don’t miss out!
