Domaine Anne Gros Grands-Echezeaux Grand Cru 2022 - First Bottle

Reviews

95-98 Jasper Morris -
New at Anne Gros. A fine pink purple colour. The nose is elegance personified but with a suggestion of fruit depth behind. A gorgeous suavity of fruit, fine at the front of the palate and continuing through behind. Little red berries and a faint touch of liquorice. More refined than Bas des Beaumonts (see under Paul Tollot-Gros), less detail but more substance than Loachausses. Drink from 2032-2040.
94-96 Vinous -
The 2022 Grands-Echézeaux Grand Cru is the maiden vintage under the Anne Gros label, the parcel having previously been vinified by Bernard Gros (Gros Frère & Soeur) under a fermage. It has a very well-defined bouquet, dark berry fruit intermixed with crushed limestone and wilted rose petals, understated at first and only gradually gaining intensity. The medium-bodied palate has filigree tannins, tensile from the start, with a keen thread of acidity. It fans out wonderfully towards the finish with a saline aftertaste. Precision is the keyword here rather than power. Superb.

A captivating blend of dark berry fruit and intense chai spices complemented by earthy nuances like wet forest floor. All supported by a firm mineral backbone, while its velvety and rich texture leads to a rewarding long finish.

About the Producer

Anne Gros took over her families winery in the late 1980's but their family lineage spans all the way back to 1830's. The land holdings have been split among the family members for many generations, totaling four separate wineries connected to the Gros family. What started off as 3 ha has turned into 6.5 ha across nine appellations including some very prestigious Grand Cru vineyards. As a woman winegrower, Anne knew how to prove herself and convince all who doubted of her ability to manage a domaine. She showed that she had not only the muscle but also the brains to make her family domaine one of the greatest domaines of Burgundy. The Echzeauc Grand Cru bottles comes from 29 year old vines in the liu dit Les Loachausses.
