Avennia Cabernet Sauvignon Sestina Columbia Valley 2016 - First Bottle

Reviews

95+ Jeb Dunnuck -
It shows the purity and elegance of the vintage beautifully and offers classic Cabernet notes of creme de cassis, lead pencil, crushed rocks, and tobacco leaf. With beautiful balance and that more elegant, finesse-driven style of the estate, it packs plenty of fruit and is a seamless wine that will benefit from 2-3 years of bottle age and keep for 15-20 years.
94 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
Composed of 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc, the 2016 Sestina has a focused nose with a robust, still-tight fruit core, subtle oak tones and soft floral aromas. Full-bodied in the mouth, the wine shows a classic expression of Cabernet with focused minerality, blackberry, plum and sage as it evolves on the palate. The wine lingers long with elegance and finesse on the finish, showing great precision that will last a decade and more. Just 410 cases were produced.
94 James Suckling -
Impressive blue flowers on the nose with a wealth of fresh, ripe berries and an alluringly subtle thread of spices. The palate has a neatly contained, central drive of fresh flavor, swathed in silky, long and fine tannins. Impressive. Drink or hold.

About the Producer

When Marty Taucher asked Chris Peterson to review his draft winery business plan in 2009, it fortuitously coincided with Peterson's desire to start a new chapter in his winemaking career. The conversation continued at the friendly confines of North Seattle's Fiddlers Inn, where the vision for Avennia was born. Mutual esteem for their respective strengths and experiences allowed them to forge an effective partnership. Ultimately, they agreed on the Avennia's core principles - a passionate commitment to signature vineyards and natural processes in the cellar - resulting in timeless, world class wines that are solely and undeniably Washington. With the support and input from Chris' wife Lauren Smith and Marty's wife Colleen, Avennia was a reality.
