Quintodecimo Terra d'Eclano Aglianico Campania 2015 - First Bottle

Reviews

95 James Suckling -
The nose here is really pretty with dried bay leaf, Thai basil, raspberry compote, hot stones, pressed violets and lavender. The palate is very lithe but structured with firm yet, somehow, juicy tannins that fit beautifully with the driven acidity. The finish is long and quite chewy, but very minerally and subtle. Drink now or hold.
94 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
Opening to sweet flavors of blackberry marmalade and black cherry confit, the 2015 Irpinia Aglianico Terra d'Eclano is a full-bodied red wine that shows the ripe fruit flavors and exuberance of this warm and sunny vintage. This is a soft, round and concentrated expression with soft and well-integrated tannins. Pair it with your favorite home-cooked meals like roast chicken with rosemary potatoes. Those comfort foods would match this extremely comfortable wine.

95 and 94 points, $15 off per bottle of this ridiculously delicious red. Luigi Moio is the master behind this wine. A producer, researcher, master teacher, and counselor who has inspired the efforts of many of the most important houses of Italy's south and has become, in his own right, the creator of some of the area's most exquisite wines, both red and white. His collaborations with other wineries in southern Italy, many of whom - thanks to his gifted advice and leadership - became very significant names in this part of the country. He also spent most of the 1990s getting his PhD studying the scientific aspects of wine aromas (that becomes obvious as soon as you stick your nose in the glass of this gloriously perfumed wine!). But, like many other big-time oenologists, the not so secret desire to become a producer was always part of his plans, which took concrete form in the Campania region's most historic and prestigious zone, Irpinia in the province of Avellino in 2001. You just need to taste this glorious red to understand its brilliance.

About the Producer

Quintodecino Winemaker Luigi Moio learned a lot during his time in Burgundy in the early 1990s, where he completed a PhD studying the scientific aspects of wine aromas, but also owes much to his Campanian wine heritage. Moio's father Michele was also a producer and, in the 1950s, revived the ancient Falernian wine style, a favorite of the ancient Romans. After Luigi's studies in Burgundy, he moved back home and started his iconic winery in Irpinia in 2001, which would become a benchmark in the region and in Italy.
