Paul Bara Special Club 2012 - First Bottle

Reviews

94 Vinous -
All the best qualities of the Paul Bara house style are found in the 2012 Special Club. Bright, ample and wonderfully perfumed, the 2012 has it all. Orchard fruit, white flowers, mint and white pepper all add freshness. For a 2012, Bara's Special Club is very tight, which won't be any issue at all over time, but does mean readers will have to exercise at least a bit of patience. Disgorged: October, 2019.

The best price you'll find on this rare bird. Paul Bara's Special Club is super special indeed, one of the finest of its kind. Antonio Galloni raved about this wine in his 94 point review, "Bright, ample and wonderfully perfumed, the 2012 has it all. Orchard fruit, white flowers, mint and white pepper all add freshness." He also pointed out that it is quite tightly wound and will require a few years of cellaring to show its true greatness. If you ask us, its drinking pretty heavenly right now.

About the Producer

The Bara property was built in 1860 in one of our favorite Pinot villages Bouzy. In the beginning, it was a farm with stables, a cow shed, a sheep pen and a cellar; however, in 1965, the barn was transformed into a press room and a winery. Paul Bara, the father of today's owner Chantale, was the first of the dynasty to sell champagne under the brand of the same name in the 1950s. Bara was one of the first to export its champagnes to the United States and has become one of the most popular grower Champagnes in the states. Nowadays Paul Bara champagnes are sold on all continents of the world.
