Moccagatta Barbaresco Bric Balin 2016 - First Bottle

Reviews

96 Vinous -
The 2016 Barbaresco Bric Balin, Moccagatta's flagship, is fabulous. Rich and sumptuous in the glass, with tremendous allure, the 2016 has so much to offer. A rush of dark cherry, espresso, licorice, spice and leather builds as this creamy, luscious Barbaresco shows off its immediacy and appeal. There is plenty of tannin, but it is nearly buried by the wine's luxurious fruit. What a gorgeous wine this is. The 2016 is once again simply compelling. Another year in bottle has only been a help.
94 Wine Spectator -
Well-marked by vanilla, coconut and toasty oak aromas and flavors, this red offers ripe cherry and plum notes and a spine of vibrant acidity. This should really sing once it integrates more fully. Features a fine, mouthwatering finish, with a chalky, minerally aftertaste. Best from 2023 through 2037. 1,100 cases made, 500 cases imported.

Hey, if you opened this email you are probably hip to how outrageously fantastic the ‘16s are. In my 25+ years of doing this, for across-the-board pleasure AND long-term cellaring, I can’t think of one better. The level of depth and balance is truly astounding.

We have a small (small!) parcel today of the world-class Bric Balin, from the slopes of the Muncagöta cru (which happens to be the dialect form of “Moccagatta”).

FREE GROUND SHIPPING on 3+ -- $49.95! Only a few magnums available! FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED…!

About the Producer

In the second half of 1800, Giovanni Minuto owned vineyards in the town of Barbaresco; in 1913 his son Luigi started to produce wine from the grapes harvested. In 1952, the company was split between the sons Lorenzo and Mario. Mario inherited the Moccagatta farmhouse which gives the name to the current company. Today, Francesco and Sergio carry on their father's business with great passion. They are supported by their respective sons: Stefano who works in the company, and Martina who got a diploma at the wine-making Institute in Alba and graduated in viticulture and enology at the University of Turin.
