Villa Creek The Avenger Red 2017 - First Bottle

Reviews

96 Vinous -
Inky ruby. An assertively perfumed bouquet evokes ripe, mineral-accented black and blue fruits, candied violet, pipe tobacco and incense, and allspice and licorice notes emerge as the wine opens up. Powerful, spice-laced blackberry, cherry liqueur and fruitcake flavors show no rough edges and deepen with air while maintaining energy. The broad, floral- and mineral-tinged finish is framed by smooth, slow-building tannins and eventually leaves behind an intense dark fruit preserve note.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!
Love Saxum? This 96-point blockbuster is RIGHT THERE (and quite a bit less $). We were amazed to score a few cases...do not miss! Villa Creek is on fire!

After snagging up some bottles for ourselves, we have just enough to offer this 96-point Rhone wunderkind from one of Paso's stars, Cris Cherry. The Avenger is a Syrah based blend that really envokes elements of the Northern Rhone while never letting you forget its west Paso roots. Soaring aromatics of blue/black berries, incense and hot stones tinged with wild violets, meet a mouthful of blackberry compote, cherry and candied anise with incredible concentration and purity.

Vinous Media recently scored this up with the top wines of the appellation, in the same grouping as Saxum, L'Aventure, Clos Solene and Booker! Yes you read that right, and for 1/3 the price! They flipped for this, saying its, "assertively perfumed bouquet evokes ripe, mineral-accented black and blue fruits, candied violet, pipe tobacco and incense, and allspice and licorice notes emerge as the wine opens up. Powerful, spice-laced blackberry, cherry liqueur and fruitcake flavors show no rough edges and deepen with air while maintaining energy. The broad, floral- and mineral-tinged finish is framed by smooth, slow-building tannins and eventually leaves behind an intense dark fruit preserve note."

In short, we bought all we could and it is barely enough for an offer so if you're reading this, you should too! First come...first served!

About the Producer

Chris and JoAnn Cherry moved to Paso Robles in 1996 to open a restaurant. In 2001, they purchased their first grapes to make wine for the restaurant. And so began Villa Creek Cellars. In 2017 they closed the restaurant to devote their time to the winery. Grapes are sourced from the region's most esteemed vineyards and they strive to create exciting wines that reflect the land from which they originated.
