Petrolo Torrione Tuscany IGT 2016 - First Bottle

Reviews

95 James Suckling -
Aromas of dried flowers, dried berries, cherries and hints of stones. Full-bodied, very firm and silky. An intense underlying energy of acidity and a lovely finish. 75% sangiovese, 20% merlot and 5% cabernet sauvignon. One of the best ever. Drink in 2020.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!
The 2016 Torrione is a blend of 75% sangiovese, 20% merlot and 5% cabernet that just screams drink-me-now-with-unbridled-joy. Sweet and dried cherry flavors and scents, rose petals, dried cranberry, fresh and zippy and pure --- honestly it is a bit scary how quaffable it is. But at $25?? Truly astounding!! 2016 is a vintage to LOAD UP on...actually, we’d say “back the truck up”...! 95 points and $25 bucks...just grab some before it disappears.

About the Producer

The Petrolo estate was acquired in the 1940s by the family Bazzocchi that followed up the tradition of carefully producing high quality wines. The peculiarities of this area adds to its value; the land of Petrolo, where vineyards, olive groves and woods coexist, living side by side, forming with the soil a rich ecosystem that contributes to perfectly balance the different grape varieties. Petrolo's vineyards extend across 76 acres of which 64 are in production to date. With an altitude between 750 and 1,350 feet. our vineyards grow over moderately loose-packed soil with rocky stratifications of limestone, sand, claystone and flakes of shale typical of the Chianti area.
