Containing 4% Cabernet Sauvignon, the deep garnet-purple colored 2017 Merlot offers up pronounced notes of plum preserves, baked blackberries and black forest cake with suggestions of baking spices, licorice and dark chocolate. Full-bodied, rich and velvety textured, the palate is laden with dark fruit and spice layers, beautifully defined by a refreshing line, finishing with great persistence. 4,404 cases produced.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!
I recently opened an old favorite of mine -- 1997 Pride Claret. It was a showstopper. Older Pride wines NEVER disappoint, and they are pretty screaming relative bargains in this $150+ Cabernet world. With that -- our HIGHEST recommendation for the ‘17 Merlot -- a blockbuster and performing WAY, WAY above the ticket price.
As you know, Pride is uniquely located on the Sonoma/Napa county line, at the top of Spring Mountain (it’s a GREAT place to visit, I might add), with excellent exposure and high elevation. Winemaker Sally Johnson just nails it, vintage after vintage. The Merlot is nothing short of a JOY, with tons of silky blue fruit, crushed flowers, perfume and rich, mouthcoating presence. Awesome. Both will age for 2 decades. So much to love!
