Charles Heidsieck Blanc de Blancs NV - First Bottle

Reviews

94 Decanter -
Launched in May 2018, this new cuvee was inspired by the very first blanc de blancs produced by the house in 1947, well before this style became fashionable. Based on the 2012 harvest, with 20% reserve wine dating back to 2005, this is not a baby version of Blanc des Millenaires, but more of an aperitif style. Fresh, pure and elegant with aromas of white peach, grapefruit and some floral notes. There?s beautiful salinity on the palate, with the acidity melting into the wine with a chalky sensation and creaminess on the finish.
92 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
Based on the 2012 vintage, the latest rendition of Heidsieck's NV Blanc de Blancs incorporates some 20% reserve wines, derived from younger vintages to emphasize what Cyril Brun described as the "youthful" side of Chardonnay, in contrast to the mature expression of that cépage offered by the house's Blanc de Millénaires. Unwinding in the glass with aromas of citrus oil, white flowers, green apple and walnut oil, complemented by some of the empyreumatic nuances so typical of the base vintage, it's a medium to full-bodied, elegantly textural and incisive wine that's lively and inviting. It was disgorged last year with nine grams per liter dosage.

The brand new release from the legendary Champagne house of Charles Heidseick is amazing! WAS $100! Not today! It is pure and clean with great concentration, and despite a relatively high dosage of 9 grams per liter, it remains very fresh and linear. This is primarily from the excellent 2012 vintage (one that continues to excite us the more we taste) and finished with 20% reserve wine, mostly from more recent vintages, which provides the tremendous young and vibrant character to this bottling. It shows subtle stone fruit and tart white cherry aromas with white flowers, but in the mouth is where this really excels, crackling with citrus zest and blood orange pith and a fine mousse. BRAVO!

About the Producer

Charles Heidsieck was one of the very first Champagne Houses to demonstrate its passion for Chardonnay by producing a Blanc de Blancs in its 1949 vintage. There is also evidence that the Maison had produced some mono-crus from the Côte des Blancs as early as 1906. This concept has been reborn in 2018 with a non vintage Blanc de Blancs.
