Mayacamas Cabernet Sauvignon Mt. Veeder 2015 - First Bottle

Reviews

97+ Vinous -
Another stellar wine from Mayacamas, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon continues to be quite reticent, which is probably a very good thing for its long-term prospects. Even so, the 2015 is dense, powerful and super-concentrated, with a level of finesse in its tannins that separates it from so many wines in this challenging vintage. Time in the glass brings out graphite, menthol, licorice, sage and spice notes that add a sense of gravitas. I would prefer to cellar the 2015 for at least a few years to allow some of the baby fat to melt away. I expect the 2015 will always remain an exotic, full-throttle wine relative to the norm here. I can't wait to see how it ages.
96 Wine Spectator -
Youthfully compact, with tightly wound black currant, bitter plum, and blueberry notes, this needs time to meld with the charcoal bay leaf and star streaks, but the mouthwatering cut on the finish suggests that won’t be a problem. Offers a long echo of juniper at the end. Best from 2023 through 2040.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!

Wine Spectator #2 Wine of 2019!

Andy Erickson’s newest Mayacamas Cabernet is one for the ages. A no-brainer for collectors and one of Napa Valley’s treasures! We sang this wines praise for months, now Wine Spectator has echoed our praise calling it the 2nd best wine in the world for 2019.

Say the winery name in the right circle of wine folks and watch heads swivel your direction. A legend since the mid-60s, Mayacamas is, in our opinions, a true American treasure. Originally built in 1889, the winery came to prominence when the Travers family bought it in 1968, after Bob Travers left Heitz, where he learned the winemaking craft. The Travers sold in 2013 and Andy Erickson was brought on to upgrade the facility and continue the tradition of long-lived, complex, deep, brooding mountain Cabs. Read more HERE!

2015 is a powerful, masculine vintage in Napa. This wine will challenge you to outlive it!! Exceedingly well-priced, we think, in a world of $200-$300+ Cabernets. Only 10 cases to sell! Let us know!

About the Producer

Grapes have grown continuously on the Mayacamas property since the late 19th century, at elevations of up to 2400 feet above the Valley floor. For almost 130 years, generations of vintners have worked the soils of the estate’s rugged mountaintop vineyards for tiny yields of intensely flavored mountain grapes. Now under new ownership with a superstar team of grower Phil Coturri and winemaker Andy Erickson, this historic property has ushered in a new era.
