Carte Blanche Chardonnay UV Vineyard 2016 - First Bottle

Reviews

96 Jeb Dunnuck -
From a great site on the Sonoma Coast, which is also known as the Laguna Vineyard, the 2016 Chardonnay UV Vineyard was barrel fermented and spent 16 months in 30% new French oak. This brilliant wine offers a medium gold color to go with rich, powerful notes of pineapple, crushed rocks, and brioche. It shows more and more minerality with time in the glass, has good acidity, and a concentrated, medium to full-bodied style that’s a joy to drink. It reminds me of a slightly Burgundian style Chardonnay from Mark Aubert.
93 Vinous -
Carte Blanche's 2016 Chardonnay is bright, nuanced and beautifully focused, not to mention absolutely delicious. Orchard fruit, white flowers, mint and lemon confit all grace this exquisite, classy Chardonnay. The mix of Wente and Robert Young clones works nicely here to produce a Chardonnay of notable complexity and class.
93 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
The 2016 Chardonnay UV Vineyard (located six miles from the ocean) aged 18 months in 40% new Burgundian oak barrels. It has gorgeous tropical fruit notes of pineapple, guava and green mango with suggestions of baking bread, toasted almonds and honeysuckle. Medium to full-bodied, it fills the palate with satiny-textured tropical flavors and just enough freshness, finishing long and fruity. 200 cases produced.

Carte Blanche is Nicholas Allen’s (owner of Haut-Brion and La Mission Haut Brion!) Napa project, utilizing the very best vineyard sites and an elite winemaker, (and one of our all-time favorite people) Helen Keplinger. The wines in the last few years have been off the charts, and many of you bought and loved the incredible 100-point ‘15 Cabernet. These new releases are drop dead killer. This is a star on the rise to be sure!

The Chardonnay from the UV (Ulises Valdez) Vineyard is best known from Mark Aubert’s dozens of 95-100 point wines he has made, and in fact, Jeb Dunnuck, in his 96-point review said: “It reminds me of a slightly Burgundian style Chardonnay from Mark Aubert.”  We agree. You will be blown away. See full review above.

We could go on and on, but just GET some! While they last!

About the Producer

Carte Blanche is Nicholas Allen’s (owner of Haut-Brion and La Mission Haut Brion!) Napa project, utilizing the very best vineyard sites and an elite winemaker, (and one of our all-time favorite people) Helen Keplinger. Nicholas’ family has been in the wine business for nearly a century, since his great grandfather, Clarence Dillon, acquired Chateau Haut-Brion in 1935, and from an early age he gained an exposure and appreciation in wine. Eventually, he was inspired to produce his own boutique label in Napa Valley and he sought out the very best terroir and locked in long-term contracts where he could control the farming.
