Massolino Barolo Parafada 2013 - First Bottle

Reviews

97 Wine Enthusiast -
Cellar Selection: Aromas of new leather, ripe dark berry, vineyard dust and a whiff of smoky flint waft out of the glass along with floral and balsamic notes. The full-bodied palate shows great energy and intensity, delivering juicy Marasca cherry, ripe cranberry, white pepper and clove framed in youthfully assertive, refined tannins and bright acidity. A mineral note wraps up the lingering finish. With time, this will develop even greater complexity. Drink 2023?2053.
94 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
The 2013 Barolo Parafada is a gorgeous wine that needs ample time to complete its promising aging evolution. The quality of fruit is still tight and slightly nervous, although the well-managed tannins show an impressive level of integration even at this early stage. The wine is assembled with tightly fitted building blocks that give it a grounding sense of firmness and stacked layering.
94 James Suckling -
Pretty aromas of wet earth and spices with black pepper and licorice. Medium body with full and defined tannins. Dense and powerful. Need three or four years to soften but will come along beautifully.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!
Serralunga is ground zero for Massolino. The family has a long history of innovation and excellence dating back to its founding in 1896, and the words typically used to describe these hard-to-find wines are “classic”, “traditional”, “harmonious” and “made for aging”.

The soils around Serralunga are Helvetian in origin, older formations than the Tortonian soils on the La Morra side of the zone. There's a lot of marl and iron, giving the wines potential for longevity which Massolino surely captures in these wines. Margheria has some sand in the mix, so it is the more open and forward of the crus. It has a distinctive mineral element in its flavor profile when young.

We are thrilled to have a small parcel to offer today at fine pricing. This is a gorgeous, long-term addition to your Barolo collection! Read all the rave reviews below! This historic estate is on a tear!

About the Producer

The history of the Massolinos and their wine became entwined with the history of Serralunga d’Alba in 1896, when Giovanni founded the Estate. Giovanni was the very first person to bring the electric current to the village. An enterprising, tenacious and creative man, progenitor of a family that has made the combination of inspiration and tradition something to be proud of.
