Rodde Family Vineyards Chardonnay Coombsville 2014 - First Bottle

Reviews

94 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
This single wine from the Rodde family estate in Coombsville is made from a Montrachet suitcase clone and bottled unfined and unfiltered. Plenty of stone fruits, white peach, honeysuckle and crushed rock are present in what is clearly an almost grand cru Burgundian style of wine. It has fabulous texture, terrific purity, and a long, rich, concentrated finish. At this price point, this is a no-brainer. Moreover, I think it will drink well for up to a decade or more.

Living in the Napa Valley gives us some pretty stellar opportunities from time to time, and this is a perfect example of a wine to STOCK UP on while it lasts. In fact, Robert Parker in his review calls it a “no-brainer” at the $60 price!“This single wine from the Rodde family estate in Coombsville is made from a Montrachet suitcase clone and bottled unfined and unfiltered. Indeed. This is impressive chardonnay from the tiny Rodde winery (just a few hundred cases are made) from winemaker Scott Rodde, who takes his influences from the likes of Helen Turley, Mark Aubert, and Luc Morlet. On a side note, Scott’s son Tyler is the chef/owner at the much-loved and highly-regarded Oenotri restaurant in Napa, mmmm pasta, but ah, getting back to this superb deal, this Coombsville chardonnay is deliciously textural, delicate, loaded with splashes of tropical fruits, but with a streak of must-have acidity to keep it pumping. Truly an almost daily drinker at this price!

About the Producer

This small family winery, owned by Helen and Scott Rodde, was established in 2005 and located in the Coombsville appellation of Napa Valley. One one, from one vineyard, this is about as boutique as it gets.
