Lail Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc Georgia 2017 - First Bottle

Reviews

95-97+ Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
A barrel sample, the 2017 Georgia Sauvignon Blanc comes 100% from the Totem Vineyard in Yountville, fermented and aged in 100% new French oak. It comes busting forth with notes of ripe apricots, green mango and lemon tart with touches of baking bread, fresh ginger, fennel seed, lanolin and orange blossom. Medium to full-bodied, the palate reveals the most incredible satiny texture with some phenolic grip, filling the mouth with spiced citrus fruits and finishing very long and very exotic. 350 cases are expected to be made. To be bottled in April 2019.
93-95 Vinous -
The 2017 Sauvignon Blanc Georgia is another fabulous wine from Robin Lail. In 2017, the Georgia is decidedly less unctuous than it has been. That is not at all a bad thing. Lemon confit, white flowers, mint and orchard fruit flesh out in this super-expressive, nuanced Sauvignon Blanc. All the elements simply fall into place. A move towards larger format oak and lower toasted levels really allow the fruit from Lail's Totem Vineyard in Yountville site to speak with clarity.
95 James Suckling -
This is a solid, compelling white with lots of dried apple, vanilla, cooked peaches and pears. Apricots, too. Full-bodied, dense and layered, yet it remains fresh and vivid. Structured. Excellent depth and length. Wonderful finish. A unique white for Napa. Drink or hold.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!
Simply put, this is the most exciting white wine we've tried this year. In years past, this wine was very rich, and now it has turned direction a bit, looking a bit more to Graves, without sacrificing any intensity or power or length. Wow! Sourced exclusively from the dry-farmed Totem vineyard in Yountville that was once part of the original Napanook vineyard. This is like Haut Brion Blanc turned up to 11! And Melka might know a bit about that, as his very first job in wine was at the infamous Chateau. He has been perfecting this wine over the course of his extended tenure at Lail and he may have finally done it.

The Georgia is one of the highest-scoring SBs EVER from Wine Advocate at 95-97+, saying: “busting forth with notes of ripe apricots, green mango and lemon tart with touches of baking bread, fresh ginger, fennel seed, lanolin and orange blossom. Medium to full-bodied, the palate reveals the most incredible satiny texture with some phenolic grip, filling the mouth with spiced citrus fruits and finishing very long and very exotic.”
