Rihaku Sake Dance of Discovery Junmai Japan NV - First Bottle

Reviews

100 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
Always one of the most unique in the lineup, the 2014 Syrah Bionic Frog is phenomenal stuff any way you look at it. Cold fireplace, charred meat, tapenade, shiitake and loads of dark, earthy fruit all emerge from this full-bodied, tight, backward and beautifully concentrated Syrah that readers just need to taste. Incredibly long, elegant, building and heavenly juicy, don't miss a chance to get some of this! It needs 3-5 years of cellaring and is going to blow you away over the following two decades.

Brewed with Kan no Mai, a newly developed rice that thrives in cold climates and carries smoky, saline flavors, this sake has a distinct profile. The rice's name, combining the Japanese characters for "God" and "dance," reflects its unique nature. Milled to 68%, the sake offers a textured, layered taste, balancing smoky and sweet notes with a cleansing acidity. Its malt-like rice flavors finish dry due to the prominent acidity, making it an ideal pairing with yakitori, sweet potato gnocchi, or pork loin with apricot.

About the Producer

Founded in 1882, the brewery was named after the Chinese Tang-era poet Li Bo, known in Japan as Rihaku, by Reijiro Wakatsuki, a former prime minister. The brewery crafts its sake with meticulous attention to raw materials, selecting the finest rice for sake preparation for every grade they produce.
