Continuum Proprietary Red Napa Valley 2016 - First Bottle

Reviews

100 James Suckling -
Super aromas of blackberries, blackcurrants and blueberries. Hints of fresh herbs and tobacco. Iron and ink. Full-bodied, very tight and powerful, yet not too heavy. Lightly chewy and polished. So much nerve and intensity. Super length and depth. Drink after 2025, but a joy to taste now.
99 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
The 2016 Proprietary Red is blended of 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Cabernet Franc, 18% Petit Verdot and 5% Merlot. Deep garnet-purple colored, it emits an incredible array of seductive floral notes?violets, lavender and rose hip tea?with a core of warm cassis, redcurrant jelly, dark chocolate, cigar box, tapenade and crushed rocks plus hints of bay leaves, beef drippings and yeast extract. Medium to full-bodied, the palate explodes with vivacious black fruit sparked by red fruit, herbal and mineral accents. It is framed with a rock-solid line of firm, grainy, super ripe tannins and finishes with fantastic fragrance and freshness. Wow!
94-97 Vinous -
I tasted the 2016 Continuum from two hypothetical blends, both of which point to a vintage of significant potential. The first blend reveals a wine of considerable aromatic intensity and power, while the second shows the more nuanced side of the estate. Both are compelling.

Too late, we are SOLD OUT!
Wow! Tim Mondavi’s brilliant ‘16 reminds us of a young Chateau Margaux from a great vintage (like ‘16, actually). An absolute MUST for the serious Pritchard Hill aficionado! Seductive. Deeply concentrated and contemplative. Tightly wound but brimming over with intensity and wildly complex layers. IMMERSIVE, really --- this is a wine to spend time with and get to know over the next 20-30 years. DAMN!!

We’ve always liked Tim’s wines from Continuum, but really, 2016 is on another plane of existence. It’s such a terrific vintage across the Valley, but in this incredibly rocky Pritchard Hill terroir with its cooling influence from nearby Lake Hennessey, it is just out of this world. This property is really firing on all cylinders these last couple vintages after becoming 100% estate grown and produced just a few years ago. This has that ineffable coiled power of First Growth quality, young Bordeaux, truly...tongue tying and brain-rattling!! Did we say wow?

For sure, the greatest Tim Mondavi (post Mondavi Winery) wine I have tasted, and so far it looks like the critics agree. Wine Advocate 99 points out of the gate, Suckling just upgraded it to 100 and 94-97 Vinous! Super limited, we have just a few cases...please don’t miss! Just one bottle left and that's all!

About the Producer

Four generations of the Mondavi family have grown and produced wines among the world’s finest. Cesare Mondavi was the first to bring wine to the table but it was his son Robert’s passion for excellence, which inspired both his family and the world. Tim and Marcia Mondavi, along with their children, maintain this continuum of excellence, innovation and tradition at their estate, high on Pritchard Hill.
