Levo Wines 2 2 Tango Syrah Central Coast 2019 - First Bottle

Reviews

94 Jeb Dunnuck -
In the same ballpark quality-wise, the 2019 Syrah 2 2 Tango (89% Syrah and 11% Graciano) is riper and more exotic, with lots of violets, bay leaf, game, and peppery notes as well as a core of dark fruits. Full-bodied, balanced, and just impeccably put together, it?s a seriously good Syrah to enjoy over the coming 7-8 years.

“Full-bodied, balanced, and just impeccably put together, it’s a seriously good Syrah to enjoy over the coming 7-8 years.” - Jeb Dunnuck, 94 points

Impeccable...that’s a pretty solid word to describe this wine, heck, all the recent Levo wines that we have tasted, loved, and shared with y’all. Bret Urness has put together a portfolio of high-scoring, top-notch wines that deserve the attention of every Cali-wine lover (and beyond).

Bret is an avowed disciple of Sine Qua Non, Jonata, L’Aventure – those inky, hedonism-loving, delightfully over-the-top producers that have taken the California wine industry by force over the past few decades. This wine falls right in step with such acclaimed powerhouses – concentrated, powerful, purely electric syrah. This blend includes 11% graciano — a typically Spanish blending grape, that adds a ripe and spicy character to this classic syrah profile. Robust and structured, this wine is layered with bramble berry flavors, beautiful purple flowers, and a juicy core of plums and currants. The finish shows a hint of iron ore and pepper spice, with a velvety and voluptuous texture.

This monstrously talented producer is primed for the spotlight, with a price-for-the-quality ratio that is simply outstanding. The critics love it, we love it, and now it’s your turn. Grab a handful or more, you won’t regret it!

PAIRING IDEAS: I had a bottle of this with friends a couple weeks back, and opted for Greek gyros. The spiced meats, garlicky yogurt sauce, and warm flatbread — it just works.
