Aubert Chardonnay Sugar Shack Estate Napa Valley 2021 (Magnum 1.5L) - First Bottle

Reviews

98 James Suckling -
So much gunpowder to the lemon rind and cooked apple aromas. Goes flinty. Lemon curd. Some sliced pineapple. Full-bodied with a compacted palate and a glossy texture to it. Very, very creamy. Honey. Candied lemon. Oily, but then goes fresh and zesty. Drinkable now, but will age beautifully.
96-98 The Wine Idependent -
The 2021 Chardonnay Sugar Shack was tasted as a tank sample, due to be bottled in December 2022. It rolls effortlessly out of the glass with alluring notes of juicy nectarines, honeydew melon, and lemon pastilles, plus wafts of sassafras and marzipan. Full-bodied, the flavors build in the mouth, stacking layers of citrus, melon, and spices, finishing opulent. This is the Montrachet Clone – what Mark calls “the citrus circus” clone.

Now this is just… radiant. We’re catching unmistakable aromas of simmer-ripe peach, honeyed orange blossom, lemon zest and wild herbs. Balanced by lively acidity and showcasing, this superb Chardonnay is destined to delight over the next 10 to 15 years. Embracing minimal intervention winemaking, its slightly hazy appearance reflects Aubert’s commitment to authenticity and purity.
