Lewis Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 2018 - First Bottle

Reviews

95 Jeb Dunnuck -
A big bruiser, blockbuster of a Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve boasts a dense purple color as well as a mammoth-sized bouquet of blackcurrants, dark chocolate, roasted herbs, and lead pencil. Thick, rich, and full-bodied on the palate, it has a great mid-palate, building yet bright, polished tannins, and a great finish. It’s one big mouthful of fruit at the moment, but it will develop more elegance and nuance with 2-4 years of bottle age, and I suspect it will have two decades of overall longevity.
94 Wine Spectator -
This is an extrovert, with singed vanilla, mocha and violet notes gilding a ripe, lush core of plum, blackberry and black currant fruit. Ends with a frankly toasty tug on the licorice- and fruit-filled finish. A bit amped up in style, but will have fans for sure. Best from 2022 through 2035.

Lewis has never been shy when it comes to big, powerful, and ample wines. This is the newest in that vein and man! It’s impressive. 95 points!

We would be hard-pressed to find a more consistent producer in the Napa Valley. Lewis delivers the goods year after year without fail. You all likely remember the tremendous and flashy 2013 vintage cabernet that took home Wine Spectator’s cherished "Wine of the Year" cabernet award a few years back – well, this is about as close as you can get to that today. Just a beautiful Reserve cabernet from the absolutely spectacular 2018 vintage. This delivers the textbook pedal-to-the-metal, Lewis style in spades, and we have it for you at by far and away the best price in the U.S.A.!

In 1992, former Indy Car superstar, Randy Lewis, alongside his wife, Debbie, established a small family winery in Napa smack dab in the center of Napa’s valley floor. Just like his driving days, he created a style of full-throttle, push-it-to-the-limit wines that have become some of the most consistently revered wines in Napa Valley’s storied history. More recently, the Lewis family sold to Paso Robles Justin Winery, but the family has stayed on – continuing to lead the team to create memorable, small-production wines that showcase tremendous Napa vineyard sources from Calistoga, Saint Helena, Rutherford, and beyond.

The heady, inky, and powerfully concentrated wine leaps from the glass with aromas of shaved chocolate, baked cherries, black currants, vanilla, and violets. In the mouth, velvety and plush sensations of more berries and cherries, with a spicy, pencil lead minerality and toasty, expansive barrel sensations, finishing with a bite of licorice. Certainly stuffed with plenty of elements to age over two decades, but the perfect stand-alone fork and knife-er wine for any big and bold Napa cab lover hell-bent on hedonism!
