Offers a deep well of succulent, fleshy fig, boysenberry, plum and raspberry fruit, while notes of fruitcake, red licorice and monkeyd apple wood remain prominent. Long, dense, poised and polished through the finish, this has finely beaded acidity and perfectly inlaid tannins to let everything come together in the cellar. A stunner, presenting a combination of depth, breadth and poise. Best from 2016 through 2035. 70 boxes imported.

Purity and elegance are seldom paired together as well as this. The fruit is ripe, sweet and fresh, with the right amount of spicy tannins in the mix. This stellar wine was produced from 100% old vine Grenache which reached 15% alcohol.

There are roughly 2,800 bottles of the 2012 Châteauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes to go around. Always a blend of 100% Grenache from three terroirs -- Charbonnière, Esquierons and Galimardes -- it is completely destemmed and aged all in stainless steel (there wasn't enough to fill a larger barrel). The wine possesses a perfumed, complex profile of black raspberry and blackberry-like fruit, spring flowers, licorice and damp herbs. This is followed by a full-bodied, voluptuously textured wine that has layers of sweet fruit, fine tannin and terrific length. Located in the northern part of the appellation and covering more than 40 acres in Chateauneuf du Pape, this impeccably run estate is managed by Sisters Sophie and Catherine Armenier. The winemaking here is a mix of both traditional and modern techniques, with Grenache seeing mostly concrete tank and stainless steel, and Syrah and Mourvedre both seeing time in smaller barrels. Complete destemming, pump overs as opposed to punch downs, and inoculation are all the norm here.

Vivid ruby. Heady, expansive raspberry and boysenberry scents show superb clarity, with notes of incense and star anise emerging with air. Palate-staining red and dark berry flavors deepen and become sweeter with air while maintaining vibrancy. A smoky mineral quality adds definition and lift to the finish, which features silky tannins and an exotic touch of blood orange. This flamboyant wine checks in at 16% alcohol but I'd never have guessed it.

About the Producer
Step back in time and join the historic journey of winemaking with the Armenier sisters at Domaine de Marcoux! With a rich heritage dating back to the 1300s, the Armenier family has been creating unforgettable wines in Chateauneuf-du-Pape for centuries.
Today, Catherine Armenier and Sophie Estevenin continue this legacy, producing wines that have earned them a place in the annals of wine history. In 1990, they made history again by becoming the first vineyard in Chateauneuf-du-Pape to implement biodynamic farming practices. Their youngest vines are 40 to 60 years old, and they take a hands-off approach to their harvested grapes, allowing the natural flavors to shine. As critic Stephen Tanzer said, "this domaine is the essence of Chateauneuf-du-Pape."
In 2003, Robert Parker recognized the sisters' hard work and talent, naming them on his list of "Wine Personalities of the Year." He wrote, "Over the last 12 years, the biodynamically farmed vineyard has risen to the top of Chateauneuf-du-Pape's quality hierarchy. The two red wines produced are stunning, with the regular cuvée of Chateauneuf-du-Pape being one of the finest in the region and the limited production Cuvée Vieilles Vignes being one of the world's truly magnificent wines."
So raise a glass and celebrate the Armenier sisters and their incredible wines at Domaine de Marcoux!
