The full-bodied, rich 2015 Châteauneuf du Pape Les Vieilles Roussanne delivers huge swells of pineapple and mango fruit, bolstered by toasted cedar and vanilla. It's opulent, expansive and broad on the palate yet remains fresh, zesty and long on the finish, not an easy thing to do. While I've no doubt this wine was even more impressive a few years ago, it shows no real signs of decline, and I suspect it will continue to drink well for close to a decade more. Bold apricot, peach and ginger flavors pump out from the core, while bitter orange, almond and lemon chiffon notes fill in the background. This is intense and ambitious, winning on richness and power, though there's spine and definition to match. Drink now through 2018. 50 cases made, 14 cases imported.
