Domaine Marc Colin Saint-Aubin En Montceau 1er Cru 2019 - First Bottle

Reviews

92-94 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -
Aromas of Anjou pear, green apple, white flowers, mint, clear honey and oyster shell—a rare nuance in this vintage—introduce Colin's 2019 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru En Montceau, a medium to full-bodied, layered and multidimensional wine that's concentrated and incisive, concluding with a long, saline finish.
92 Burghound -
An admirably subtle dollop of wood sets off the citrusy and floral suffused aromas of poached pear and freshly sliced apple. There is fine volume and density to the medium-bodied flavors that display focused power on the palate coating and youthfully austere finish that exhibits excellent length. Wines from En Montceau almost always age well and the 2019 version should be no exception. One to check out. *Burghound Outstanding Top Value!*
88-90 Vinous -
The 2019 Saint-Aubin en Montceau 1er Cru is perhaps the most reticent of Damien Colin’s cuvées on the nose despite rigorous swirling of my glass. Tight-lipped! The palate is very well balanced with orange cordial and lime on the entry and then this Muscat aroma comes in and yanks this wine away from Saint-Aubin! Asking Colin about this obvious trait he says that this emanates from his foudres, not the vineyard and because he too found that it detracted from typicité, well, it’s au revoir to the foudres from 2020.

About the Producer

Domaine Marc Colin was founded in 1970 by Marc Colin and his wife Michele. The Domaine spans 15 hectares encompassing 26 appellations in St. Aubin, Chassagne, Puligny, and Santenay and certain parcels have been in the family for more than 100 years. All of the Domaine's vineyards are situated on finely pitched hillsides resulting in wines with savory minerality and luster. Today the Domaine is run by the next generation, Joseph, Caroline, and Damien, the children of Marc and Michele. The Domaine farms sustainably and organically, with most of the vineyards consisting of older vines, and clay-limestones soils that are just some of the shining qualities of this Domain.
