Italics Endure Cabernet Sauvignon Coombsville Estate 2019
Napa Cab ALERT! In another “this-might-be-the-greatest-coup-in-wine-retailing-history” and “we’ll-never-see-the-likes-of-this-again First Bottle flexing” – we have an astounding, truly one-of-a-kind offering today. ITALICS! $100 OFF the winery price! 93 POINTS. Let’s GO!
Italics’s estate is COOMBSVILLE ELITE. Next door to Julien Fayard’s Covert Estate, this winery was born of a Texan grapefruit magnate, who tasted wine at the estate back when it was called Frazier Winery. Years later, it was his, with Steve Reynolds brought on as the opening winemaker. Critical praise ensued. Their entry-level cabernet will set you back $100...but for this UBER-RARE, best-of-the-best Estate cabernet – Endure? $175. Our price? $75. We don’t normally Math in public, but we’re pretty confident here.
Marbue Marke is the winemaker – originally from Freetown, Sierra Leone, he was a 15-year-old phenom in the pre-med program at UC Davis until he learned of a potential issue – he tends to faint upon seeing blood...so...he opted for a degree in winemaking, instead! For years he was the man behind the madness that is Caldwell Winery – guiding the winemaking program underneath one of Napa’s foremost rapscallions – John [email protected]*!#ing Caldwell (seriously, that’s how John refers to himself). If you’ve ever had Caldwell wines, you have an idea of where this is going...BIG, rich, silky, and certainly NOT-FOR-THE-SHY style wines that nevertheless maintain a highly polished, refined elegance.
The cool site of Coombsville gives brightness, floral, and mineral anchors to temper the decadent lavishness of pure berry fruits and spicy, chocolatey oak notes. Kirsch and plum, raspberry, blackberry, dark chocolate, black pepper, bay laurel, volcanic rock...this beauty has it ALL! This brilliantly showcases the spectacular 2019 vintage – with a balance between bright and alluring friendliness and deep, rich concentration and structure. The “Endure” is so named for being aged for a bit longer in oak than their other estate cabernets, so it comes in a bit richer, with softly rounded edges and a warm spiced mocha finish. This Napa cab will simply PURRRRR impressively for decades! I still can’t believe OUR PRICE?! $100 OFF!!!
Go get ‘em, cab lovers!
Food Pairing: Sorry, but this is born for steak… maybe a nice bavette steak? A bit of sauce bearnaise with extra crispy french fries for dipping? Oh, yeah… that’s the ticket!
Music Suggestion: Elton John’s “Levon” is one of those songs that I simply have to hear… at least once a week, or I get bummed out. Just so happened to have it come on whilst tasting this and thought you all should get the chance to enjoy it too!
