96 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate -

The 2020 Chardonnay Little Hill comes from the oldest vines at Rochioli, planted in 1972. Its aromas open slowly, quince and apricot complemented by notes of manuka honey, dried chamomile, almonds and meringue. The full-bodied palate is satiny and expansive, with refreshing acidity and a very long, textured finish.

"From the oldest vines at Rochioli’s Little Hill, this fruit-leaning Chardonnay offers supple notes of honey and floral tea, balanced with bright stone fruit and quince. It’s a crescendo- opening slow, but leading to a full bodied, silky finish that lingers in every way you want it to."

These wines are always in demand, always revered a,nd always rated among the best varietals to be sought anywhere in the world. "2020 was an early season, so we picked it all before September 1, and the fires started on August 17. We did lay off on the percentage of new wood," he continued, explaining that lab numbers are not necessarily representative of flavor. "I tested my 2019s with the 2020s, and they showed higher smoke numbers than the 2020s, simply from the char of the barrel. The smoke numbers we saw were irrelevant because there's just much more to smoke taint than that."
