Halcon Vineyards Tierra Petite Sirah Yorkville Highlands 2019
Halcon is one of our most-requested producers – along with “bigger” names like Turley, Ridge, and Shafer – they make outrageously high-quality wines from the cool Yorkville Highlands appellation and keep their prices incredibly reasonable! 100% petite sirah with 94 POINTS from Vinous is something to take note of...
Also 94 Wine Enthusiast and 93 Jeb Dunnuck...this is a complex, layered, and surprisingly elegant petite sirah! Definitely read the pro reviews on this wine, but we’ve long felt that Halcon offers some of the best bang-for-the-buck in the biz today...and you simply can’t find this rare creature anywhere else!
British expats Paul and Jackie Gordon fell in love with California wine and made a bold move, purchasing a remote vineyard in the hills of the Yorkville Highlands between Cloverdale and Anderson Valley. They then planted 15 acres with the help of seasoned winemakers and grape experts, such as Wells Guthrie of Copain Wines in Russian River Valley, Carole Meredith and Steven Lagier of Lagier Meredith Vineyard on Mount Veeder in Napa Valley, and Scott Shapley of ROAR. Today, these wines are much-loved and fought over by those in the know! Cool climate, high elevation Mendo winemaking at its finest!
Inky blackberry and blueberry, with sour cherry and plenty of black pepper spice. There are fine herbs roasted over an open flame, black, volcanic earth, and dusty chocolate, all balanced with incredible poise and elegance – and considering the very nature of petite sirah...that’s saying something! We just got this blockbuster petite sirah in and suggest you snap up what you can! 94 points! First come, first served!!
PAIRING IDEAS: Going very specific here, but ever heard of a Montreal Smoked Meat sandwich? Oh, baby, fly me to Quebec to queue up at Schwartz’s for this one!
