A lovely left-bank Bordeaux-styled wine that comprises 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot, and 7% Cabernet Franc that sports a dark ruby core with a purple rim. Aromas of blackberry, cassis, dark plum, cedary herbs, and a hint of frankincense fill the glass. It’s a rich, decadent, and bountiful wine on the nose and on the palate. Flavors of black fruit, tobacco leaf, toasted cinnamon stick, and white pepper are present alongside chalky tannins, high acidity, and a lengthy finish. Hold for a few more years and then enjoy for 15 years or more. Highly recommended.
The flagship Bordeaux release, the 2019 Sestina is 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot, and 7% Cabernet Franc aged in 58% new barrels. Gorgeous Pauillac-like crème de cassis, lead pencil, graphite, tobacco, and chalky minerality all define the bouquet, and it's medium to full-bodied, beautifully balanced, has ripe, polished tannins, and a great finish. It reminds me of a great vintage from Pichon Comtesse. Drink it over the coming 20-25 years.
Inviting aromas of elderberries, blackcurrants and dried flowers. Full-bodied with fruit-soaked, silky tannins. So much deliciously ripe fruit on the palate. It never comes across as muddled, but rather articulate and dynamic. So much depth. Very well balanced and structured. Terrific. This is showing well now, but will continue to get better with time. 77% cabernet sauvignon, 16% merlot and 7% cabernet franc.
Cabernet Sauvignon comprises 77% of this wine, with the rest Merlot (16%) and Cabernet Franc. The aromas offer subdued notes of leaf, red and black cherry, cocoa and moist soil, with old vines shining through. The palate is all about sophistication and grace. It's a very pretty wine, with sneaky heft behind it. Best from 2027–2035 with plenty of life beyond that. *Cellar Selection*
Shows detail and dimension, with elegantly layered black cherry, mint and espresso flavors that expand with tension toward medium-grained tannins. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2030.

“It reminds me of a great vintage from Pichon Comtesse.” - Jeb Dunnuck
Who doesn’t love silky, powerful, elegant, mineral-rich, and deeply concentrated cabernet sauvignon? Prepare to be blown away! We were lucky to have snagged a small parcel of Avennia’s Sestina – a relatively new project that is already making a HUGE splash in the WA wine scene. This is their 10th vintage, and wow! They simply continue to crush it with layered, complex wines that taste like a piece of the left-bank was uplifted from Bordeaux and dropped smack dab in the middle of Washington’s Columbia Valley. We just finished tasting nearly all of Bordeaux’s big names at the 2020 Union des Grand Crus de Bordeaux (p.s. - get excited!), and this beauty could have easily slipped into the tasting without raising a single eyebrow.
The wine is composed of fruit from three of Columbia Valley’s top sites – Dionysus, Red Willow, and Bacchus – all sustainably farmed and carefully coaxed into this lush and decadent showstopper. 16% merlot and 7% cabernet franc round out the blend, adding further depth and a nice jolt of aromatic complexity.
Don’t miss this utterly killer price; we had to work our magic with the winery to allow this once-in-a-lifetime price. Only 20 cases! This wine is ridiculously delicious! What a find...what a buy!
